You actually did two things right, although you may not realize it. You approached. That's the first one.

But, you also got an emotional response. You said she smiled and giggled. Remember, girls are attracted to how they feel emotionally when they are around you. So, if you can get these kinds of responses, thats what you want. Compare future approaches where you have a boring hair dresser conversation. You will see the difference.

As for what else to say, try to focus on just having fun and try to be unfiltered. Just say whatever pops into your mind as you are having fun in the interaction. Don't try and think of the right thing to say. Focus instead on having fun and brining a playful conversation to the girl. Not saying be try hard, just self amuse. Your interactions will go well if you can open this way.

My dude don't worry about the conversation being clumsy. If you want her number ask it, don't overthink stuff because for you it may be clumsy, for her it could be one of the best things to happen in her day. There's always a 50/50 change of her saying yes to you asking for her digits. But If you chicken out and don't ask that chance will be exactly 0

When you run outta things to say is usually your opportunity to ask for her number .. just say it with ease like “well i gotta get going now im kinda running late for an interview, what are my chances of getting your number?” .. and its either yay or nay ..

canned stories or go to questions people like to talk about …I always ask about peoples family it gets them to really open up then zig zag from their on relatable stuff.. so you have any brothers or sisters?

Also I don’t compliment a girl on her looks, not from a cold approach their defenses will fly up and girls tend to be more curious on if you like them if you don’t actually say it.

If you want to compliment her do it in a situational way like u did , good taste in books, how far along are you?

introduce urself, then begin talking abit about your day or things ur up to see how she engages, bounce if she has no personality or connection..
