First off, don't get it in your head that girls don't like nerds, cause they do (genuine, actual, intellectual nerds, not just video game and Magic card players, though some girls dig that too). I've had many a gal pal, attractive ones at that, tell me how much they want some guy working on his PhD at physics or English or something. This is often to their detriment, cause just cause you're smart, doesn't mean you're actually fun, interesting, or even a good person, but that's a totally separate topic. But just know, to a lot of people, you are a prize (this should be your mindset regardless)!

So when someone calls you a nerd, no need to be phased by it. Why would be phased by being called something that you just are? Would you be phased if someone called you handsome, or well dressed, or charming? "You're a nerd!" -> "Well my mama raised me right." "You're a nerd!" -> "Why thank you, I'm also tall, dark, and handsome." It doesn't really matter what you say as long as you own up to it.

I study a natural science myself and I enjoy all kinds of nerdy and intellectual stuff. When someone says I'm a nerd I generally just say yes and maybe make a silly joke about it. There's simply nothing wrong with it and I don't take it as an insult.

I would change and balance myself out. Your 'nerdiness' is just pack following and a tool for group acceptance. You probably learned this from a young age and found your identity in it. Why not change? Why not unlabel yourself and try something else and see what sticks. I was your stereotypical nerd growing up and I think it was just a cop out because of social anxiety, fear, etc. Now I'm a combination of all types of things. I'm cool, well dressed, can dance, can socialize, and can hack the linux kernel, write code, and watch anime. Accept who you are but, imo, break out and explore. Don't follow the geek culture jut cause that's all you've known and are comfortable with. If you come back around to it, fine. But, I expect a little exploration and pushing back against your identity every once in a while. Venture out. Try not being identifiable as a nerd for 6 months. See what comes of it.

I think the advice of just accepting and playing it up is not entirely right. That's all.

There is nothing wrong with being passionate about something. It makes you interesting.

I play Magic:the Gathering, WoW, Dota, Hon. They're pretty much the nerdiest things on the planet. I was even actively involved in the Hon competitive community for a while. If a girl asks about these things and is all "lolol why do you do those things" I say "Because I enjoy them".

That's all there is to it as far as I'm concerned. If shes all "lol fuck off nerd" then shes a close minded bitch and isn't worth one second of your time. It's because of people like her that made gay marriage and women suffrage a massive deal.

In situations like that, all I do is nod and say "Yeah." as if they were confirming today's date. No expression, no reaction. Also what can be fun to do is to catch something they are nerdy on and be like "Whoa I didn't know you were nerdy too!"

The jocks may have been more "popular" in high school, but they also peaked then too.

Who invented everything awesome that we have today? Nerds. Who put a man on the moon? Nerds. Who creates government policy and tells the military/jocks what to do? Nerds.

Nerds are a national resource, and should be cherished. Relish in your nerdiness. Embrace it. Continuously work to increase your stats and when levelling up, don't forget throw a few points into str and con.

And above all, be awesome.
