The up and downvotes are there to provide an indication as to how good the advice is, so if that's also what flair is used for, doesn't that make it quite redundant?

Additionally, I feel it possible that those contributors would garner more upvotes for their posts than they would otherwise for a multitude of reasons. For example, people are more likely to be 'appreciative' of them responding if they have an air of authority. Obviously that may mean their posts aren't necessarily being upvoted on their own merit.

But I think the general idea of flair is kind of silly. I don't think it matters.

I think flair is a nice way to recognize people who have been an active member of Seddit for a while. They don't have to always be right, but with enough experience their advice should be better than most of the rest. It should make for a nice way for new members to pick out the better posters who are not mods.

With that said, I wouldn't go crazy with flair. If too many varieties of flair start popping up, people won't have any clue what they mean and will ignore them.

Quick EDIT: What if it just gets changed to [practices]

I added it because it shows who is actively working on it. It does NOT mean the person is an expert but it does mean they actually go out and try things. That is all it means. It does not mean that the person is great at pickup.

I think it is more like how you would generally trust more of what an older person has to say about life than a young person because the level of experience. Not necessarily the level of expertise but just the level of experience.

aPUA only means amateur pickup artist. Someone who practices instead of is just writing shit down. The FRs are only to prove that have have gone out and what they have done.

I cannot see who is on the other side of the username but it helps knowing that I can read FRs to verify that they actually go out and try things and are not just concocting random shit.

It is no way shape or form means that they are good at pickup but that they are out there doing things.

TofuTofu could be considered pPua (Professional Pua - good, consistent, always knows what hes doing)

I think that nothing can be a substitute for critical thinking. But just like /r/Science, where I'd be more likely to listen to somebody who was an expert in his or her field, I'd be safer in assuming that somebody who has flair in this field is going to give me advice that has some degree of validity to it. I've seen people here an in AskSeddit who give advice that other people have had to literally warn against, because they thought they knew what they were saying—when in fact, the tried-and-true methods and theories have proven the exact opposite of what they were saying.

Who knows, maybe those people would have had flair under the current guidelines. I dunno. But just like the fact that reading the sidebar shouldn't be an optional thing, using your own critical thinking should always be required, too.

I think people just need to upvote/downvote the correct advice, or cite reasoning for their advice so the OP can decide on their own. Flair is just a way for people to feel superior to everyone else or have recognition.

That's how the planet works, bro. You should take every piece of advice and information with a grain of salt to begin with. Some people have more experience and have a more experienced opinion than others, but as always, people are always proven wrong, including authority figures.

I think it's stupid. We're not here to force-feed people. If someone is interested in joining our community and becoming better, they should put in the work like the rest of us. That means going out, finding what works, and trying new things. To establish a hierarchy by putting titles next to our names creates a subculture which, quite frankly, is unnecessary.

We're here to get better with women. If other people have the same goals, it won't kill them to pay attention and find the person they can most relate to/who gives the best advice.

People are going to draw assumptions about someone through their reputation whether or not they have a flair. They'll look at his field reports, they'll look at his comments, and they'll look at how other people treat him.

Personally I'm against the weird flairs like "busy guy", it's just unnecessary, and may insult the person. I am also against the "aPua" flair, it's also unnecessary. I think there should be one flair only, the PUA flair, and it should be for someone who really deserves it because they earned it, they are consistent with results, they have a wealth of knowledge, and people should listen to them. Everyone makes mistakes, everyone gives bad advice sometimes, so it doesn't matter. What matters is that person has experience and generally knows what they're talking about.

There are several guys on here that I friended so I can follow their posts and soak in any wisdom I can.
