9 months ago when I broke up with my GF I was majorly out of practice. I'd been in relationships one after the other for a long time, so I was never what you'd call a master to begin with. My GF was easily a 9 and the experience made me pretty good at most parts of my game. I went through a bit of oneitis after dumping her, even though it had been my idea, but when I got past it I found I was at best a little rusty at opening and at worst a total chode.

So I read a bunch of stuff here. Watched videos. All the videos. Read a few books. Decided that Mark Manson is my brother from another mother. And then started opening girls.

I sucked at first, but got better, and here's the system I've developed. Please tell me why it blows and how I can improve it.

Here is my opening strategy, in order of preference:

  1. Can I say something funny? Coffee shops are easy. "I bet you're the kind of girl who orders something with like 8 words in it, like a soy double half caf no whip moca chino aren't you?" Then when they ask me what I got, it's an iced tea, because real men don't drink anything with more than two words in it. And even then I'd prefer just one word, because that's even manlier, but it's hot out and who wants a hot tea on a hot day? In a supermarket you can tease her for having 5 bags of potato chips (assuming she's not fat, since who opens fat girls) or for having all health food and needing to live a little, etc.

  2. Can I say something situational? A compliment is ok if it's something genuine, but don't make one up. "Awesome tattoo, is that a dream catcher?" Early PUA stuff was all about that. "Hey did you see that chick fight outside?" I'm not a good actor, so I'm only running that line if there was an actual chick fight outside, but there's often something similar.

  3. Fuck it, go direct. "Hi, you're cute and I just had to say hi." That works better than you think. It's my main game at bars. Nervous guy game is a little more disarming if you think it's a tough open and works wonders as long as you back it up by not actually being nervous. "I normally don't do this but you're adorable and I had to say hi."

So that's my system. What am I missing?
