Try to use developer instead. And whenever you tell girls thats what you do, look them straight in the eyes and imagine fucking them. Sometimes they'll say 'aah so you're a nerd' or something like that, and just tell them yes. As long as you like and are comfortable with what you're doing it shouldn't be a problem.

Technically my career title is "Software Engineer", and while I'm obviously a programmer I'm actually accredited as an engineer not a computer scientist (which is awesome since it means I can technically switch without getting further education).

So when people ask me what I do, pretty often I'll just say "I'm an engineer" or if I want to be specific I go with "I'm an electrical engineer" (my major). This applies to everyone I meet since almost without fail if I say "software engineer" anyone outside of engineering/CS asks "so like.... what's that?" at which point I either have to say "i'm a programmer" or go into a stupid pussy-drying explanation of how I incorporate the principals of engineering into the software development cycle.

Don't call yourself a programmer. He talks about business value and economics (it is about career development), but the same ideas can be used when talking to women.

Imagine a car mechanic. I bet you just saw some guy dressed in greasy oil stained blue coveralls. He could be working on Rolls Royces. SHE could easily not be a man. You get the point. Good or bad, there's a particular stereotype attached to Computer Programmer.

You have to break the mental stereotype. "I work on vintage foreign cars." That has a good ring to it. It's also specific. "Computer Programmer" could be Larry Ellison to some poor indian worker in an outsource firm. What differentiates you? How can you be more specific?

Ok, this is starting to sound like career advice, so here's some actual seduction material.

Try answering with something absurd and run with it. I had a girl 100% believe I worked as a garbage man. If you are good at storytelling you can go far with this. She might call you on it, but then you would tease her for her lack of imagination. Turn it into a guessing game where you continuously fake up multiple careers with outrageous stories.

Even better if she asked: "What do you do?" The sky's the limit with the answers about this question as you deliberately misunderstand multiple times.

Or maybe you have a great project you are working on. Bonus points if it doesn't have to do with your job. Share it with the world! You're passion will leak through your voice and people will remember. I'm working on a fairly racy hardware project that, when I mention it, always gets a long enthusiastic conversation with women. I'm not using 'always' in hyperbole. It happens every. single. time. Find something like this you can share with the world.

i don't know if i would tell her directly that you are a computer programmer Nowadays with computer programming industry being seen as lucrative, you could possibly be pushed into a "provider" frame just like doctors/lawyers etc etc

You could always be more vague. Say you work in "technology", "computers" or "software development". 99% of people don't actually care about what you do, and those that do care probably also work in your field.

I write reports for banks about the values of properties, so I just say "I work in real estate". People assume I'm buying/selling houses but whatever, it gets the point across.

Your choice of study (and work) says some stuff about you.

For example: Being fat says you're lazy, have no self discipline, and most likely don't have any control of your life.

I guess being a computer programmer have different, but still negative associations. Off the top of my head, I would think it says "lonely, bad at socialising, sitting indoor all day, playing computer games and nerdy stuff in spare time".

I think it would be better to adress those things, rather than try to fake your job (let's face it - a man of value, don't really care about a girls reaction to his job). Are you a skinny guy? Maybe work out (it helps in many other areas, including confidence, energy levels). Are you spending all your time alone playing computer games? Change that! Do you know how to be social? If not, then do something about it!

Change yourself, rather than fake yourself. That's my advice to you.

Of course, it requires hard work, and the easier way is so tempting...

You don't need to make programming sexy. You need to convey your passion for computers in a way that she can emotionally connect with. When she sees your passion about what you do, she imagines you can be passionate about her.

So what you need is a "persona." You're not a coder. You're building the next generation of the internet. You're building systems that will run the world and take it into the future, etc. You're Future Guy.

The problem with saying "programmer" is that it really isn't its lack of sexiness. The problem is it isn't relatable to anyone who doesn't code (or at least interact with coders).

Something like IT or Engineer is much more general and more relatable for most people. You can always go into more detail if they are interested. Even better, talk about the business problems you are solving e.g. IT at X Bank, or develop websites like Y.

Software Engineer or Computer Science sound more high status and interesting. They also don't bring to mind the imagery of an overweight neck-beard.

I tell people I save the world. I work in cyber security. Just say you're an artist. Technically you are since you're a programmer. I believe that developing is the last true form of human creation. Once we program AI so well we will just have computers do it for us.

Computer programmer isn't boring just because programming is boring (to most girls). It's boring because it's generic. "I write programs for insurance companies" is much more interesting (even if it's still just boring programming).

Wow, lot of people saying to cover the fact you're a programmer. I'm also a programmer, and never has saying the that hurt my game. I'll often make a joke about it "Can't you tell by my introverted ways and how shy and awkward i am around a REAL LIVE FEMALE?!" it usually smashes any stereotypes they have since i tend to clearly be a huge Extrovert.

I teach computer science. Similar approach issues. I usually tell them it's been a passion my whole life, and go into cool projects I've worked on, how my students love my class the most, how I've expanded into making websites for local businesses and churches (for free, religious girls eat that shit up), how I do storage device recovery, etc.

Be passionate about it while speaking on a normal person's level of depth. Teach her a few things, joke with her, make yourself seem like you chose computer science because it's fucking awesome, not because of the stereotypical nerd assumptions.
