I think there are two ways to do this.

Paraphrasing what IWriteForGroupies said,

Accept that you cant control everything. It shouldnt be a big deal if someone doesnt like you.

or

Love yourself to the point where its enough and that is all you need.

To expand on these ideas: If you believe that you represent the best you can be, and someone thinks poorly of your best, they arent really worth caring about. They must earn your respect as much as you must earn theirs. You are equal to every person until YOU have proven otherwise. Dont let anyone take that from you.

In the end, it is just self-respect and confidence. If you are still having trouble with that, YOU dont believe that youre the best you can be. Fix it.

By realizing that chances are good you are barely even noticed. No one really cares about some random dude on the train. They probably won't ever see you again. You could step off and fall onto the tracks and die, and as long as you don't delay their commute in a few minutes you'd be forgotten.

So why would I? I also tend to think most people are a step or two above drooling cavemen, and that most people make shitty, selfish choices, so in truth I don't really give a crap about them either. They could all vanish into a puff of smoke, no real loss to the world. Its pretty easy not to care about what people think of you if you think to some extent nothing matters.

I struggle alot with this as well. But it's worth fighting for getting the ability of competely not care about other people's thoughts about you. I think one of the few ways of doing this is to have confidence in yourself and love yourself for who you are and everything you do. One little trick when picking up random girls at the streets is to understand that, you will most likely under any cicumstance, meet this exact same girl again. Why bother what she thinks of you? You can do anything you want....

Focus on yourself, you are the most important person in the world. If anybody don't like you, it doesn't matter, you don't wanna please others, you wanna please yourself.

What's always worked to me is to shift the paradigm of the thought from one of self-absorption (what do they think of me) to one of self-deprecation. Although this sounds odd, it is effective for me. Ask yourself, why are you so important? Why would any of these other people give a fuck about you? When you realize your own insignificance (and consequently, by extension, the insignificance of everyone else), life becomes simple a theatre to express yourself. There's no bottom to hit, per se, so just have fun with it and do what you want.

I do care to an extent. I try to see myself from another persons perspective, like how I would see any other person. From that point I just act the way I would consider appropriate. It's all about context.

People care about themselves, because we are the main protagonists in our lives. We don't care about you or the guy who did something weird last tuesday.

The answer is too simple, but may reaquire some effort. First of all above everything on social events and happenings, you need to love yourself first. And by that I dont mean forcing yourself to love you. It should be like when you look at mirror, and that good feeling appear in your stomach which occurs when you like something. Your shape, your style, grooming of your face, hair etc.

Believe me when you look good you feel good, and that affects your mind as well. You wont care even a bit about what shit peope may think.
