It happens mainly because the way men differ in going about meeting partners from women and you see that in gay men. Gay men don't always compete for the best guys in the venue, they are more open to meet a guy and just be casual and are okay approaching.

Here's what you do. Be nice to them and thank their effort in approaching (you know how those suck sometimes). Use this opportunity to make new friends who help you see the world of seduction differently and help you pick out clothes. Make sure they understand that you really mean friendship and that you're into girls and not "I'm secretly in the closet and shy". Sometimes they don't get that straight up.

Now go approach women because they aren't going to approach you like gay guys are.

Also I really doubt anyone whose opinion is worth considering is ever going to think you're gay because you have gay friends or dudes hit on you.

Focus on how do you handle people teasing you about it. You can’t control how other people behave towards you, but you can control how you respond. You could analyze why does being teased about it bother me? What bothers you about it? You can let them know that it bothers you and you won’t accept that kind of behavior from them. You can have boundaries.

Serious answer, I find that acting overly friendly, deferential, and anxious is perceived as gay. Perhaps gay men are picking up on these qualities in you. If so, just turn up your selfish, aggressive side a bit and you should deflate a few expectations.

I get eyeballed fairly frequently in my gym locker room because I look like a twink, but I almost never get approached because I adopt a stern, "don't talk to me" vibe when I can tell I'm being checked out.
