I believe that the phrases "girls love assholes" and "girls hate nice guys" have caused guys more failure than anything. Girls love nice guys, and they're not going to sleep with you unless you open your nice side up to them.

A lot of guys put on a big fake act, trying to seem cool, aloof and douchey. Then they wonder why the girls don't like them. Girls want a guy they can connect with. They want to be treated like humans. When you look into their eyes, they want to be seen as humans not just some sex toy.

Girls NEED comfort, and the whole idea of "just be a dick" gets guys nowhere.

Now, this doesn't mean be nice in a beta, low status way. The sexiest thing to girls is a guy who is nice WHILE staying true to himself. He puts on that vibe of "I'm real, nice, and I'm not going to chase you. If you like me, fine, if not, that's fine too." He's not needy. But he knows how to build comfort by being nice, real and connecting.

I think being soley dick works for a small minority who are actually that way all the time, because at least they're being real. Authenticity also builds comfort. But if you're a naturally nice guy, I think it's best to build standards for yourself, learn to love yourself and be nice to chicks in a self amused, fun, I don't give a shit way.
