men deeply care that women laugh at their jokes. they wanna be the star. their partner is there to be their audience.

Being funny is related to social status, and men care less about that in women than women do in men. Many men actively dislike women who seek social status. They don’t like being outshined by women, and being funny can make you the center of attention. Same reason men often have a visceral dislike for female comics.

That said, I’ve definitely had men become more interested in me after finding out I’m funny. I have a sort of dry, understated sense of humor though, which I think is more palatable to men.
