Met this girl at a party and we had strong chemistry: lots of eye contact, banter, flirting, etc. When I asked if I could take her out sometime, she said she was just getting out of a long term relationship and taking a pause on dating. But she still gave me her number, "just in case". We texted a bit back and forth and she invited me out with her friends. But when I asked her out again later she said "I'll think about" followed by the same "not dating right now" rejection.

In theory, I can fully respect that someone getting out of a LTR wants to take a break from dating before getting involved again. But what are good tactics to keep in touch in this situation, and how do you know when the iron is hot? Or should I live with enough abundance to forget about her completely, which is probably the right answer? But has the long game worked for anyone, and if so, how?
