No, not for guys. Not only is it a coin flip if you will get divorced, but alot of the marriages that don’t end in divorce are just under the threshold of misery to not divorce.

I don’t know too, I kind of want to get married, but as a wealthy young man (Top 1% net worth in my country), I don’t really see the point of it in modern times.

My country’s divorce laws are quite fair, where premarital assets are separate, even then I am extremely wary, because the judge can say the wife got an unfair share and demand me to give some of my premarital assets. I can setup a non revocable trust but I don’t think my assets are substantial enough for that and it seems like a hassle

If you are the poor one... Then it is not too bad of a risk. New Drs are mostly all women. Granted you will have the same problems dating a dr always has such as never seeing them and the lack of time slowly killing the relationship.... But if you do get divorced you won't have your soul and life ripped out of you like the traditional marriages...

Not saying to get married, but IF you do make sure you are marrying up. With today's society it is a terrible idea to marry someone making similar or less than you.

Marriage has become an institution that benefits mostly women at high cost to men.

If you earn more than your partner, you should shield your livelihood and avoid marriage.

If you earn less than your partner you should consider the huge burden marriage implies and be with him/her if they decide not to marry.

Social norms have changed, you can live with someone without being married and not be judged.

Most marriages are due to (mostly) women pressure and it's just a terrible idea considering how ruined your life could get.

You asked when there is a compelling reason to marry, I can count just one: if both people are tremendously religious, they're following all the rules for marriage and love according to their religion and have a support group (church, family) that consider divorce a sin and are willing to help and intervene when times get bleak, those are the only people I'd say marriage helps.

no, but im kind of curious about how feminists would react to the question, I asume they would say stuff about patriarchy and subjugation but some really do get into marriage when they see women treated as the "forever girlfriends" and whatnot, its a interesting topic and I think its more prevalent in African American communities but I guess them marriage and divorce privilegues are important to certain women, specially those who are on the older side.

The laws need to change. There probably needs to be a constitutional amendment to reinforce the laws. Then, and only then, would you even consider it, and that is if you are religious. Most of these won’t happen in the next 20 years so the answer is a resounding NO for 99.9% of people. The only reason to marry as a guy is if she is independently wealthy and you don’t sign a pre-nup. Then you can divorce her risk free and get paid.

In most other western countries, if you are in a defacto relationship and particularly if kids are involved it's treated exactly the same as a marriage.

Given that fact. My reasoning is, tradition, excuse for a good party, happy wife, no detrimental effects..

The best reasons seem to be the tax advantages which are situational, and also modifying your household composition to qualify for government benefits which is also situational. There is also more acceptance of your relationship with old fashioned people.

What is the risk of divorce when you factor out the idiots from the equation? Because the 50% number includes people such as the following:

Married for looks, intellectual vanity, and/or money instead of character and virtue
Got pregnant before marriage
Ignored obvious red flags
Did not vet their partners at all
Friends and family did not vet their partner or the vetting sucked
Have a boatload of unprocessed trauma and baggage
Have lost the ability to pair-bond due to excess sexual promiscuity
Mentally ill leftists

When you take out all of this stuff, what is the divorce rate for stable people with minimal unprocessed baggage who marry for virtue and content of character? It's very, very low. That's a factor to keep in mind when considering "risk".

This depends on where you are when you get married. In some E.U. countries like Germany and France (I think France, not 100% sure but definately Germany) you pay less federal taxes as a married couple compared to single people or common-law spouses. This applies to men and women.

If there are children involved (anywhere in the world, not only the E.U.), having the same legal name helps a lot for a few reasons (I'll discuss the benefits for men because of the post and subreddit).

If anything medically-related comes up in your child's future, the hospital must consult the father as well ad the mother as a family unit. This helps a lot if your wife isn't so calm or rational and would otherwise give in to radical treatments that may not be in the best interest of the child. The hospital has to consult you as the husband and father to ensure that your child is taken care of.

Many countries give incentives to a family regarding tax or sums of money paid out every month if children live with their married parents while in school and university. As a single father getting this money is more difficult because, yes, husbands and fathers aren't priorities. Without a wife and a child in these countries, the money you spend on exchange day doesn't come back to you at all.

When children aren't in the picture, the benefits of you being married could include work opportunies and promotions. As a business, CEOs and managing partners usually (unless there is a huge experience difference) prioritize married men for promotions because they understand that married men are (usually) less reckless than bachelors or unmarried men.

I'm not from the U.S. so I don't know about this 100% but don't men get more pay as a married man compared to a single/married guy?

Yes, there is a very basic reason to get married. Marriage and families have always been a system to support care for your children. The reason that judges give unfair advantages to women in family court after a divorce is because it is assumed the mother will support the child. When marrying, your names get changed to the same name so the child and the law knows who owns the child. It is proven that a child that is raised by both a man and a woman will be far less likely to be a criminal than any other parenting system, including separated parents and unmarried parents.

If you are not married, and you do not sign for the birth of your kid, if that kid goes to the hospital and you want to take care of them, you will not be allowed in. That kid is then your girlfriend's (or ex girlfriend's) kid and you do not get the opportunity to play the father that you should be to that child.

The only reason people want to break up the nuclear family is to help destroy western civilization.

A friend once told me: “it helps to keep the partners from making impulsive mistakes, like calling the relationship off in one drunk fight”. Helps people fight for it, knowing that you are truly one unit, and depending on the country it gives you rights and benefits, for example you can have some of the tax free allowance of your spouse if they do not work. It is not much and think should be more, but it is a step, given you are taken as a unit for other reasons if you live together.

For me is the idea that it is supposed to be permanent. We are 100% sure we have found pur person. Marriage for a lot of people can help make a click in the brain that it is not “simply cohabitating” and you are 100% in on the relationship. Changes and stabilises the dynamic.

Plus there is big risk in anything you do. And for UK even if you are not married, for a lot of things the gov sees you as if married if you have lived together for a year, meaning the risk is pretty much already there

In other countries you only get family protection in the eyes of the law only if you are married
