I ended up with her Chihuahua dog because it was attached to me even though I really didn’t want her to get another dog after our two old Labradors (both hers) died and she didn’t want to handle the vet runs, hospital stays and final put down… The little dog died 2 years later (old age) now I only keep plants as pets.

I think as far as courts go, pets are “property.” Fighting over a dog is like fighting over a recliner as far as they’re concerned.

I have it easy. We share 50/50 custody and the cat travels back and forth with our daughter.

Pets are property under the law so the judge will only order it to one or the other. If you want to battle about pet custody, support and visitation, then you’ll need to have an agreement because the judge won’t tolerate being asked to decide those matters.

Man, she said you could have the dog and now she's flipped claiming registration gives her full control while blocking you from seeing him, brother she's using the dog as a weapon not because she cares about paperwork but to hurt you or gain leverage. Legally pets are property and courts assign ownership based on registration and who was primary caregiver, so if her name is on the paperwork you'll probably lose even spending thousands fighting for it, but you could try proposing shared custody informally or offering to buy her out to see if she's reasonable or just controlling. Real talk though, sometimes letting it go and getting a new dog post divorce is healthier than dragging this out and letting her use the dog to stay in your life and keep hurting you, most guys who fought hard for pets regret the money and stress unless it was genuinely their dog with clear evidence. Hang in there brother. 💪

Well. We had 2 cats, 3 birds and 2 dogs. She took 2 cats, 2 birds and 1 dog She mentioned something about doing a custody arrangement for the animals but that seemed too complicated and unstable for our daughter and the animals. So I come home to my 1 dog and 1 bird and it helps me in healing.

I miss the other animals like hell but divorce is about lost. I just wished my 16 year old Father’s Day gift dog could have stayed. That one hurt. That one was personal.

One of our dogs was the actual agenda item for 2 separate meetings because she agreed to one thing then changed her mind.

Our divorce actually stipulates that she can request the dog the Friday before the weekends where she has our children. Otherwise he is with me.

We had two dogs and two cats. The cats went with her and she didn’t care about the other dog.

I decided to give her the dogs. She offered to trade off every 2 weeks, but a friend tried that and it ended poorly. You end up relying on each other, plus seeing each other every two weeks. It's hard to give them up, but I know it had to be done.

i think mine were part of wanting her out... I hate these cats but I love em, never had a breed like this, strange sisters
