I’d include an addendum to the corollary: issues that disproportionately affect men are rarely addressed as gendered unless men or masculinity can be blamed for it

Emotional labor is discussed as a gendered issues meanwhile married men been dealing since forever with mentally unstable partners and giving endless reassurance that "you're not fat, it's the dress" while having their sex/intimate life chronically neglected and simply enduring the dead bedroom.

But somehow...none of this account as "emotional labor"🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

It's very true and aptly worded...but reality even worse than that. As issues that are addressed as gendered often affect men significantly (with the exception of uterine issue)...but they simply are ignored.

E g. Whole month and 10x budget for breast cancer (indeed gendered issue) when prostate cancer kills the same amount of ppl...but they are men

Rape is addressed as gendered issue but incarcerated men are left to deal with torture level of sexual assault (to rate that would equalized victim rate if people bothered accounted for them)

Body image issues, too. Etc, etc.

Baskerville pointed out a host of issues men face post- divorce that women don't since they pretty much never get primary physical custody. Poor physical and mental outcomes- higher rates of cancer, other diseases, and of couse, suicide.

Every time I think I have a potential counter example I end up writing myself out of it being a counter example lol. I have only one "gendered issue" that does affect men, and it's basically "severe diseases that basically only affect men." Society does actually somewhat care about testicular and prostate cancer, for example. Which, like, yeah, society should address a flagrantly gendered physical ailment as gendered xD. "The bar is in hell," one could say ;)

If you frame it as victim studies, then yes men are 100% under-represented. Otherwise, we are usually over represented. I don’t usually have any pushback from calling differences “gendered”.
