Hey guys, so I’ve been pondering on this for a while now. Equal treatment for men and women sounds completely reasonable. Most men I know aren’t against fairness or equality in treatment. For example, If two people do the same job, they should be paid the same, right?. If someone works hard, they should have the same opportunities. That part isn’t controversial, and I don’t think anyone would have issues with that. But where it starts to feel off is when “equal” only seems to apply in certain directions or in certain circumstances. Equal in opportunities and promotions, everyone quite agrees with that. But equal expectations also apply when it comes to custody battles, child support, false accusations, who’s seen as disposable in dangerous jobs. Equal treatment doesn’t seem to apply in such cases. A lot of us grew up being told to “man up,” stay quiet, and bear the burden in silence. Now we’re told we’re privileged on top of that? Men are actually against equality, what really bothers them is being told they’re privileged, even when they’re struggling with so many problems of their own. It can feel really confusing and frustrating, I’ve been there before. Sometimes the conversation around equality sounds great in theory, but it often skips over the hard parts. It’s a bit like watching someone talk about pottery wheels as if it’s all calm and creative, without mentioning the mess, the mistakes, and the effort it takes to shape something properly. The full picture actually matters. Equality does sound good. But the real question is simple: are we talking about equal rights and equal responsibilities? Or just one side of that equation?
