As birth rates drop to catastrophic levels (hint: we are closer to this than most people realize), things are going to get crazy in the legal realm with regard to pregnancies, IVF, and state financial support of mothers and newborns.

Presently IVF is EXPENSIVE: like 6-figure expensive - per child. Further, there is a MUCH lower chance to reverse a vasectomy than most realize - to the point that one should treat it as effectively permanent.

So, in my mind, the strategy of banking sperm and getting a vasectomy is VERY risky. It may be cheaper than child support, but the risks are greater that you may not be able to actually conceive when you want to, either by virtue of financial issues, or simply not being successful with IVF.

Additionally, as governments get desperate as birth rates are already below replacement rates I would expect to see them remove as many legal barriers to conception and bearing children as possible with little or no legal protections for the fathers to avoid paying child support surviving such a scenario.

Men's very lives, through conscription, are considered a property belonging to society. Can you not foresee the day, if the birthrate drops low enough, when private sperm deposits are considered to be owned by society for the "public good"?

It's all about equality, right?

A sperm bank is a terrible idea, it will eventually be raided by women under some trumped up pretext in order to have a child without the inconvenience of a man, whereas there is no motivation for a man raiding an egg bank as he doesn't have the biology to readily create an embryo and grow it to maturity inside himself.

I wouldn't put it past women to also sue for child support from the donor of the raided sperm: sperm jacking is already a thing, where women steal sperm bypassing protective methods used to prevent transmission.

Instead men need extension of the sovereign right to determine use of their tissues to cover sperm, so that lack of consent to use sperm for any purpose is considered a crime: it's the essence of womens "my body my choice", so it should also apply to men as well for the equality feminists say is their goal.

Is it a “movement” when almost no men do it and it costs up to $1000 a year in storage? Something like 1.5% of men under 30 have a vasectomy, and of those maybe 0.1% store sperm. That’s 15 men per million.

Storage is really for people like cancer patients where chemotherapy is likely to destroy your fertility. It’s not considered cost effective for vasectomy patients because even if a reversal fails you always have the option to collect sperm surgically. You aren’t sterile.

I never trust sperm bank. Men don't have any reproductive rights which means my sperms won't be up to my use once they are deposited. Instead a woman can steal my sperm, impregnate herself and claim child support and I won't have a say in the process. Im not seeing the seizing of sperm through eminent domain as something I would worry much about, but paying a private company to store your sperm seems expensive, probably outside of what a lot of young men could afford. I don't know if vasalgel type technology will come to the point of being cleared for use in our lifetime, or ever, but that would probably be much more economically viable.
