+1 on bringing the best you to the table…. It’s a miserable business, however, it’s solid advice and works. It really does get better with time and now that my kid has gotten a little older, she sees right through it and we have a great relationship.

My wife told our kids without me. They walked around for a week knowing and me wondering how to tell them the best way.

That hurt and I let her know. To take a mans right to grieve with their children over a loss of the comfort that was a happy home life. We were married for 24 years and together for longer.

On a side note I taught divorce classes to people in our state that were ordered to go to get a divorce when kids were involved. My mother had it as part of her business and I helped her out when she found out she had breast cancer.

I'm so sorry man, it's such a brutal part in your life. I am still haunted a bit by the look on the face of my oldest when he realized what was happening. But you know what? Today, almost 10 months later, I'm sitting in my living room with my boys, about to go do some fun stuff with them for the day, and we are figuring it out together. The best way through it is to be there for them. I saw someone else's post that they will do well if you do which is very true.

Don't talk badly about your ex in front of them, it just hurts them.

Do all of the standard stuff, make a schedule/routine, don't drink too much (if at all), work out, and be present for them.

Good luck, it gets better, but you won't forget the moment easily.

When you get a divorce the kids feel they are being abandoned, at least mine did. Talking to them, prove you will be there for them. Carry on, as much as you can, like you did when married i.e. go to their sports game, gymnastics meet, whatever it is. I tried to make it my kids extracurricular stuff. I would make it a point to raise their spirits as much as I can. My efforts paid off, now they are adults and I have an excellent relationship with them.

It will get better, it’s just a fresh raw feeling for everyone right now. Eventually, they will get used to it. You got this!

I'm sorry that you are going through this. My wife is a cheater also. She is talking to the kids now on the phone while at a Ranger's game (she claims to not like large crowds in the past) while she is with her boyfriend.

It will get better.

Now is the time to focus. Focus on yourself, focus on the kids, focus on being the best damn Dad that you could be, and focus on getting to the other side of this divorce as quickly as possible.
