It's a shit test. Let me explain. A beard is attractive because our culture (backed up by biology) identifies it as distinctly male. Like women's breasts, facial hair is a gender cue that informs other people, consciously and unconsciously, that this person is a man. Back in the day, when women would have pronounced their detest of my facial hair, I would have taken them at their word and shaved it off. In reality, they are testing your frame to see if you can handle the criticism and tell them politely that they are stupid for saying that (women secretly love it when you disagree with them).

TLDR- Don't be a Beta. If a woman asks you to shave your well maintained facial hair, it is akin to her asking you to chop off your balls.

This is actually quite an interesting phenomenon, and I wonder if it's more a product of the cultural zeitgeist or biology.

A couple years ago (after having started to lift like the bloodthirsty, virile bull that I am), I decided to take up arms in the quest for hirsuteness. Working out instilled a new sense of masculine pride in me, and I wanted to wear that pride. At the time I had a relatively doughy face from bulking. I had a decent physique, one which I was receiving compliments often about how much I was changing, from men and women alike.

Brief sidenote: for all of you who have recently started a similar journey, keep track of individual girls' responses. There's a cycle. Start at no attention from her, then she notices your body beginning to form into a piece of masculine art. She gives attention and comments on it. Keep going, and once she senses that you are cruisin' out of her league, she will tell you how you're "becoming too muscly," or some other similar shaming tactic. Truly entertaining how predictable this is. As for the guys' responses, they will show respect for your dedication and be in awe. Continual support. Then again, there's no sexual side to this interaction with other straight men, so they have no reason to get butthurt.

Then I decided to take it up a notch by growing a beard. Within a month I had gone from "having some facial hair," to "having a beard." In general, the response was positive. I recall the first compliment I got on it was that my beard was "cute." Not the response I had hoped for, but it was in its beginning stages and still nothing impressive. As it filled out, I got more and more, of course. There was a heavy dose of selection bias, of course -- no one's going to say the beard looks bad. Especially not if they fear getting tombstone piledriven into the floor. Needless to say, I felt pretty good about it what with having been on the receiving end of so many beardly compliments.

As it turns out, such was perhaps not the case. In the past few weeks alone, I've had two women tell me that they "didn't expect to like the beard." Given, these responses were 1) uninitiated by me and 2) post-sex as they scratched and ran their fingers through it (I keep it tamed, nothing wild). Take from that what you will -- I interpret it as "I liked it after having gotten fucked by you." But they both alluded to not liking it up until that point.

Never trust what a woman says. Judge her based on her actions. Always. In this case, it could be argued either way: she didn't realize she liked the beard, and it improved my odds/SMV subconsciously in her mind which subsequently led to fucking her; or she truly didn't like it, but I was still able to bed her.

I'd like to think the beard triggered something deeply biological within them, but I'm not certain. Or perhaps there's some incentive, evolutionarily, for a woman's mating process to include some tactic like this. Cultural trends and other media-shaped images of an ideal man's physical appearance could also be at play here. It would not strike any of us as outlandish to make the claim that women thought they preferred this clean-shaved ideal, only to have the notion turned on its head when the right man seduced and induced tingles in her.

Either way, do as you please. Even if women say they dislike it, it's hardly going to be of any detriment to your ability to lay.

This is really funny. On a whim in Dec 2013 I stopped shaving for a few days, then decided to grow a beard just for fun for a while.

While on the surface the reaction from women was not that positive "Prefer you without beard..." "The clean look suits you better" "I am used to you as clean shaved..." etc... when it came to game the response was positive, not only I was able to attract more women, higher quality of women, but also the frame of the interaction was more sexual then flirty.

I am an older redditor here, and looking back in my life I have grown a beard before, and while the people and women close to me in my life gave be negative feedback (blue pill days, asking for feedback), I was actually able to score more women, in more sexual ways.

So today, 7 months later, my beards is here to stay, and I am enjoying it as a welcome addition to my newly discovered Red Pill Persona.

I am not a fan of body hair. I like the feeling of being clean and smooth. I used to shave all my pubes. Times change and what I prefer has changed. A few months ago my g/f noticed that I was letting it grow down there and told me she liked some hair but "not a lot." I ignored her preference. I let that stuff grow in thick. She loves it. When she is giving head she is breathing in my accumulated man scent. She rubs her nose in. She'll even lick it. Makes her feel all the more feminine for not having hair down there.

Caveat: You need to be able to grow a full, or almost full beard that small patches can be covered by decent growth. Big patches are a no-go, and just go for the clean shaven look, maybe 1-2 day stubble.

I'm gonna get downvoted in this pro-beard circle-jerk but, I disagree. Dudes like beards on other dudes better than bitches like it. Your 'I was a bit of something different,' anecdotes notwithstanding. Have you ever let a bitch get really used to bearded you and then shaved it all off, all of a sudden? Their eyes light up and they can't stop looking at you and running their hands over your freshly smooth jaw-line.

You dudes really need to shed your old bad habits. Like this beard-cult nonsense that men have. Of course they like playing with it. I like running my fingers through a bitches bush, doesn't mean I wanna fuck her any harder just because she let it grow out. A girl has the ability to rationalize anything once she has been hit with the love-goggles.

If a beard is part of your style, I can't fault that. It certainly works in some cases. Most men, however, will look tidier clean-shaven, well dressed and groomed. Bitches love a tidy man. There's a quiet elegance to him that your typical metal loving, beard worshiping, automotive geek whose a little too soft around the edges just doesn't have. The bearded man has strong associations with strife and poverty. Which is romantic. Suffering is romantic. You don't really want a bitch to feel sorry for you, though. At least, I hope you wouldn't.

If you're in shape then grow a beard. If you're a skinny hipster or a fat hipster, you will just look even more fucking retarded. Most of the men I see who have beards look unkempt and almost always have terrible senses of style to the point where they look ridiculous. They think their beards make up for the fact that they otherwise look like a twink and or a tub of lard. No a beard won't make you look masculine, but a body built with weight lifting and a proper diet will and it won't fucking matter what you have on your face.

I've never done anything with my looks where there has been two so clearly divided camps in terms of love or hate than growing a beard. It applies to men and women.

Older guys at work seemed to give me shit for it, especially one who could not grow a beard. Women were honest by saying "oh, I don't like beards - you look better without it" OR "Wow, your beard looks good on you!".

Women would open me when I went out saying "I really like beards - yours is great! Are you a musician?". When going out I have never really done any sort of peacocking, but my conclusion was that my beard was a way of doing that. Just as muscles can be such a thing. It makes you stand out. Though I have noticed it has become more and more common to have a beard these days, so perhaps the novelty is wearing off.

Interesting fun-fact: I often asked women who told me they liked beards if their father had one when they were young. Turns out there is a trend there. No science behind it, but there might be some daddy issues in there somewhere.

I can't grow a full beard yet but I have a ~mini-beard~ well-kept goatee.

I have been told before that I should not wear a beard but always ignored to people.

And yes women will try to touch it, don't let them for free.

A few months back I decided I would try to shave my beard as I have had it for over 2 years and wanted to see how I looked without it. In hindsight it was a pretty stupid idea. Not only did I look worse, I actually got taken less seriously by people. Luckely I have fast hairgrowth so I got it back to the desired length in a fortnight.

I go back a forth between having a beard and being baby face, when I met my wife I was on active duty so I was shaving every day. But once I got out I went to having a beard but I kept it short and neat. Over last summer I decided to see what really letting it go looked like and went 3 months before shaving it off. When it came in I had a lot of grey in it, enough to make me look late 30's. The wife complained a lot at first but gradually stopped , eventually I shaved it off on my own without being nagged. I noticed that without the beard I could pass for late 20's. And my wife thinks so to, I also got a lot of that's the man I fell in love with afterwards for a while. Back at work after the beard came off I did get some responses from women that they thought the beard looked better. I don't really have any where to go with this, just what I've observed through my own experience.

Growing a beard should be ultimately your choice, but if you are curious about how it will look then see if you can get a nice full bear in less then a month, if you can then let it grow in nice and full and most importantly keep it well trimmed.

Keep that shit trimmed and neat. You don't see a lot of CEO'S or people in positions of power with big unkempt beards. Often, they also make you look older. Manly as it is, I think clean shaven is a better option for most men.

I am tempted to grow it out because biologically it makes perfect sense that it would be attractive. It is a VERY visual display of not only your male identity but a high T count. It also fundamentally changes and hides emotions and an overly expressive face.... giving that stern masculine angle and added authority to every single action of yours. Same with body hair.

However then I think about pubes on a woman. They are perfectly natural signs of puberty but I find them absolutely repulsive. It might be because my attraction criteria is influenced by the waxed women in the media. But at the end of the day a girl with nobody hair is still 100X more attractive to me and will win every time. And if I (consider myself to be extremely averse to media brainwashing) can be so easily influenced by the Hollywood definition of attractive than what is to say that 18yo hottie I want to bang would be any better?
