G'Day gents.

I'm well into the 60 days of dread and things have been pretty good except for one major issue.

I've started IF and it's been working as expected. I've lost 12lbs so far and am starting to really lean out. The issue is my sex drive is way down. I have plenty of energy during the day, but around 1830 I'm out for the count. Wife is stating to get a little too dreaded, because I'm looking better and we're having less sex.

Make sure you're getting enough healthy fats. I've found that I can only pull off fasting if I'm eating a relatively high-fat diet. Grass-fed butter, pastured meats, avocados, full-fat yogurt etc. should be staples of your diet.

I usually skip breakfast, have a moderate lunch, then pre-workout snack (protein shake and a banana w/ peanut butter is my go-to). I'll then have a big meal right after my workout to make sure I hit my macros.

Could be overtraining, could be not enough rest, could be stress (eating less stresses the body), could be not enough calories (you need fats for hormones/testosterone)

What's your IF schedule like? I've notice a similar lack of energy in the evenings. I skip breakfast, eat a good sized lunch, then eat a smaller dinner and I'm still seeing lower energy levels after 630pm. I've been supplementing with a post work cup of black coffee - caffeine doesn't keep me up so ymmv.

Could also be lack of dietary fat.

I fast from 16-20hrs depending on the day. I drink a cup of black coffee first thing in the morning with 2-3 cups of tea throughout the day. My first meal is small around 1200 or 1300, with a larger meal around 1700-1800. I don't eat past 2000.

If you don't do bulletproof coffee, you should try it.

make coffee as per norm. Take a blender, add a spoon of coconut oil or butter, blend until emulsified.

Tastes just like coffee with cream, minus the shitty milk feeling (I don't like lactose) and the coffee becomes a meal at 80kcal, and the energy lasts for hours.

I was running into the low energy thing as well. Having a cup of coffee in the evening has been getting me through. I have also noticed that my body is getting used to working out when I am exhausted. I work out in the afternoons and my body kicks after about 10 minutes of me forcing myself to push harder, then I have lots of energy.

  • How many hours do you sleep?
  • How the quality of sleep?
  • How many calories per day, macros?
  • How much water are you drinking besides coffee, tea?
  • What's the workout look like, time, frequency, intensity?
  • What times are you eating?
  • Do you test your blood sugar?

  • Sleep is about 6-7hrs.
  • I sleep like a rock
  • I'm not tracking calories, but I am trying to minimize carbs, and maximize protein. Chicken, pork, beef, protein shakes. Supplements are: fish oil, magnesium, and vitamin D
  • Not specially tracking water, but I drink about 3 of 16oz bottles a day
  • Work out 6day/week, 3 days of cardio. Intensity levels varies. I workout in the morning from 0900-1030.
  • Eat around 1200-1300 and 1700-1900. I don't eat past 2000.
  • I do not test my blood sugar.

You are over training. I've been doing IF for 3 years now and you cannot keep up that pace of 6 days a week. Especially with cardio. You're depleting your glycogen with each fasted cardio workout which is undoubtedly going to hurt your gains in lifting.

You need to rest. It's extremely important. With an IF cut I have found that heavy compound lifts 3 or 4 days a week at high intensity (90% of 1RM for 2 sets of 3-5 reps) alternating a lift day with a rest day is the best way to recomp your body.

I have been on Keto for 4 months. The first 2-3 weeks of low carb you will be more tired, period. After that your energy will be higher than before. You did not say Keto specifically but what you are listing is at least a lazy Keto with IF. Make sure you up your sodium and potassium in this phase (you already are doing Magnesium). I suggest Lite salt, 1.4 Tsp in water when needed. 6-7 sleep might not be enough as well with all that exercise. Have to checked out r/ketogains ?

Here's what I would do:

Go get a blood test, check your Test and Thyroid. Rule out anything systemic.

Begin switching up your diet. This could be food induced, allergies or insulin resistance. Just change one thing at a time and adjust accordingly. You could start checking your blood sugar after meals. You should read up on blood sugar, insulin, etc if you're going this route.

In regards to low carb, unless you're going keto, not much value to low carb other than calorie restriction. I'd slowly start upping the carbs and see how you feel.

I doubt this is over training. People say this all of the time but unless you're training at an athlete level, I really doubt it. Additionally it takes something like 60 hours for the liver to deplete glycogen in a fast so ignore the fasting comment bullshit here too.

So many dudes just start spouting what works for them as if it's law. In reality you need to find what works for you one change at a time.

I see your point but a personal experience is subjective. Many things discussed here can only be interpreted/confirmed by experience. Things like glycogen depletion can be tested and confirmed externally. When you choose to treat one like the other you bullshit yourself.

Reread this and can confirm taking oatmeal rather than eggs, fruit rather than nuts/excessive cheese changed my physique dramatically.

Carbs are not evil. Its possible to get more energy and less calories with slight shift in diet that may be counter intuitive

Yes. She's down 10.

There is a noticeable change in my libido. My mind says, I want sex, and my body is like, nah, I'm good. This is new to me. Normally if I haven't had sex in two days I'm a horn dog, now...I feel pretty meh, until about day 4 or 5, and by then she's pissed.

I've been there, not sure if IF was the reason.

frequency went down, quality went up. Also, noticed the good dicking and her mood were correlated.

Saturated fats may be your friend here. they bind to FF test, and it helps keep levels up.

Also, if she's 10 down, but 50 to go... I guarantee this will be a factor

Second time someone has mentioned fats, so I'm going to take a closer look at that.

I'd say she's got another 15 to go. When we first got together she was 121, She's been as high as 160 before I said enough. She's down to 135.

I don't have specific numbers as I don't track everything I eat. I track certain things, so I know I'm not going overboard, but experience tells me I'm eating about 1500-2000/day.

Unless you are 5 ft tall and 110 lbs, that is far too little calories.

Intermittent Fasting isn't supposed to remove calories. Eat on a 500 calorie deficit (1 lb / week) but it all has to be within that 8 hour window.

IF != less calories; it just offsets when those calories are eaten.

Now make sure you get 0.8-1 gram / lb body weight in protein, get at least 25% fat and the rest is carbs/fats.

False. Absolutely and unequivocally false.

First of all, OP is giving a a real reason: he's tired with no libido.

I could eat only my BMR-required calorie count... about 1900 calories... and I can tell you, from experience, that it will result in me being tired, fatigued easily, low-to-no libido, forget lifting in a large capacity and completely forget cardio. My hair, skin, and nails turn to shit, and while I will lose weight quickly, I'm losing more muscle mass than I need to.

The goal in weight loss is fat... not muscle. Maximize the fat loss and maximize muscle retention. Eating too little will result in a reduction of both.

He's not eating enough. Full stop. If he wants his energy back he will have to eat more.

My BMR is 1900. My maintenance count is 3000. I'm on 2500 a day right now and it has equated to almost exactly 1 lb per week. My waist has shrunk, my strength has increased over the last 9 weeks, and my chest and thighs are measurably larger (the tape doesn't lie.) My energy is high enough to lift 3x per week and do BJJ 2x per week, my libido is unchanged, and I don't feel like shit.

I start eating around my BMR amount and I know it all changes.

Call it an anecdote, but I have 90+ other anecdotes I can give you from boys and girls I used to coach in wrestling. I have a few more from professional fighters.

"There is no real reason NOT [to] lose weight quickly" is the dumbest thing I've heard today... but my 7 year old isn't home yet.

If he is fat, he will be absolutely fine eating under BMR. If he lifts, he won't lose too much muscle. A little maybe, but who cares, he will look bigger with tiny bit less muscle without the blubber. It will be a bitch to make progress, Ill give you that. If he is a newb, he will surprise everyone and get stronger and leaner

If you are 10 to 12 percent BF, you shouldnt bulk. You are still too damn fat.

Why are you starving yourself. Clean bulk until your LBM is 170lbs. Then try to stay between 180-185. You'll keep 6-8% bf.

7% body fat isn't impressive if you weight 160lbs

Personally i think everyone should check out /rleangains

Essentially it's a combination of intermittent fasting and heavy weight lifting. If you're not lifting you're doing everything wrong with your RP journey - so this is a good step.

You'll have to start paying attention to the macros (carbs, proteins and fats - start using My Fitness Pal) you take in - from the sounds of it if you're energy level is diet related it's likely due to insufficient fats. If you're going to work out fasted invest in some Branch Chain Amino Acids & protein powder.

My personal experience so far is my weight is slowly decreasing - but i'm building muscle & gaining strength while slimming. Which is gold. My schedule is I eat 1pm on workout days and stop at 6:30pm. I do Stronglifts MWF, distance running Tuesday, & HIIT Thursdays (ultimate Frisbee). Weekends it's a straight 10:30am-6:30pm sched. Everyday I work to get a minimum 10k steps. I do my best to follow a keto diet.

Been doing Leangains for 3 years. Went from skinny triathlete guy to Ryan Reynolds in Blade 3.

At 175 lbs I can

Bench 280 lbs for 3

Deadlift 505 lbs for 1

Squat 405 lbs for 1

I've just come off of LG after straining my lower back pretty bad (scary!) 2 weeks off and I'm going to try out a hypertrophy bulk without fasting and see what happens. I'm comfortable enough that I can go back to the heavy compound lifts with RPT without missing a beat.

What happened with your back? I also recently had a scare. Back popped while doing bent over row. Major pain. Nauseous and dizzy. Sweating profusely. Laid me out for a couple days. Had a quick recovery with meds and ice. Just started squats again yesterday with no problems(deloaded).

Same deal but no nausea. Pop on last rep of heavy squat set, felt better after weekend than crunch and pop again doing sumo deads. Must have good morninged the squat ever so slightly. Feels way better after a week of rest ice and stretching but going to give another few days anyway. I don't fuck around with back injuries. Shit is debilitating. I couldn't tie my shoes for days. Putting pants on was misery. Deloading and switching to hypertrophy for a few months bulk to give it even more time as well.

Try to cycle your macros. On lifting days eat very carb heavy and high protein low fat. On rest days eat high fat, high protein, low carbs.

Research has shown that a lack of fat (namely animal fat) in your diet can deplete your sex drive. Go get a Ribeye and enjoy.

See a doctor. I dropped 30 pounds of fat and got lean, mean and ripped and my sex drive went higher. This was with 2 day fasts

I have used IF a lot and I have never noticed the drop in libido, I suspect it is something else, but we are all different so of course it could be IF for you. Watch some porn on your smart phone before you go into the bedroom (just make sure the sound is down).

You could always throw a banana at some point. It's not totally killing your fast to put a simple 100 calories in the middle. I find they have the right level of everything to really leave me satisfied.
