After looking for some time for a good sub about marriage I ended up here and having gone through the posts, I like that the advice seemed to be genuine.

I have been dating my SO for 3-4 years now. We are very happy together and are very good at dealing with the punches of life together, however, my family is not a huge fan of her because of a few reasons and wanted to see if anyone on this sub had dealt with these "differences" and how you have handled them or to know if they have become unbearable:

  1. I come from a "wholesome" family which has good cohesion, her family has a history of issues (abusive dad, alcoholic mom and one sibling that ended up in jail). This bothers my family endlessly as they say that these inter family relationships can only get worse. Thoughts?

  2. I come from a middle/upper class family and she is from a middle/lower class family. My family fears that she will "drag me down" not understanding the way that people work at a different socioeconomic lifestyle. They also fear that she might be "marrying for money" which I know not to be the case.

End of the day, my family would rather have me go find someone who is more closely aligned (good family, similar economic background) to marry.

I am looking for advice primarily (but not exclusively) from anyone that has married into either/both of these conditions who can provide me with information of how hard or unreasonable it really is to go into a marriage and what kinds of things you might have done to ease your own family about these circumstances.
