Reminds me of this clip
Dear men, stop pretending to be so helpless! Quit crying like a baby. Stand on your own two feet!

my friends once told me that me wanting a man who has a clue what is going on in the world, talks about movies or reads books, has hobbies, has job and life goals (personal or general) - they told me that i have very very high standards and i should definitely lower them down...wtf? i was having self-doubts for almost 2 years until i realized that the things i want from a man are actually basic and i’m completely normal woman
edit: friends = women with boyfriends

Some women think the ultimate goal should be to just lock a man down, any man

yes, both of them have never been single for a longer time than 3-4 months so they never had to deal with the same things as me as a long-time single independent (living alone, have job, paying my bills, doing my travelling) woman. but i must say that after few years both of them told me that they were wrong back then ☝️

I’ve lost the count of how many times I’ve been told I should just get married “then change him!”
How about no

Oh god. I once talked about a guy I've met non-romantically with a pickme. I told her he's nice, but his hygiene is awful... She was like "oh that can be changed! and so can his dirty nails! and his morbid obesity!" ... I just looked her dead in the eyes and asked her: yeah but WHY would *I* do it?
She had no answer.

Omg 😆 a month ago, I was “seeing” a guy who made unfunny, gross, sometimes v offensive (rape) jokes, smelled terrible, never cleaned his place and when I told my roommate about it she said, “okay but he’s really nice though. If a guy’s kind to you none of that other stuff should matter”. Although, she wasn’t a pickme, just very naive and sheltered

Sorry, but how is "attractive" not a high standard?
I find very few men really attractive to me... Honestly, most of the guys are attractive because they have a good face ( I look at the face the most ). Other than that I agree...

I think it's about caring about their appearance and hygiene as much as women do. Decent clothes, skincare, looking after their hair and teeth, exercising. I'm surprised how many men don't do the bare minimum, but expect women to do so.

From my experience, men tend to start dressing up when they wanna impress me.
My fiancée does all the time. Because... [Obvious reason]
The other stuff (other than exercise, for me personally, since I'm lazy and skinny, lol) I agree. Bare minimum.

I meant as opposed to being ugly, as so many ugly dudes feel entitled to gorgeous women without having anything else going for them.
Is this better?
Edit: I actually think u/Maisiebr nailed it, although she went above and beyond my concept of bare minimum expectations which is basically just "don't be gross".

Another point is that they will criticize a single strand of hair anywhere, compare us to photoshopped images of celebrities, chase women young enough be their daughters (or grandchildren!), want you not a pound over 110 like you’re about to die, but yet WE are unreasonable for just saying “Attractive”

Yeah they'll point out that one dimple in your thigh when they look like they're 7 months pregnant but that's "muh dad bod".

There are things they can't control such as things we can't control in our appearance. I think they mean mostly taking care of themselves and grooming. The basics.

Seriously, the bar for men is very low. He can look like Shrek in the face, if he's clean and well dressed, he's golden.
Oddly enough, even through the bar is in hell and lower when it comes to male appearance, most men fail to reach it.

Not like having high standards is a bad thing.
