It should be legal, but there is issues with that. You can see in some countries where it is is legalized it helps protect traffickers. Decriminalizing it might be better unless those other problems are addressed.

Criminalize the buyer. Sex work isn't "just" work and it is tied to trafficking, drugs and abuse. Legalizing won't solve these problems and studies show that it can even help traffickers to hide their crimes better.

Legalize, regulate, inspect.

Persecution and jail to anyone that use the industry to exploit people.

It will not stop the worst aspects of that line of work in the same way labor regulations didn't stop sweatshops from existing. But that is human nature. Suffering and tragedies can't be stoped, they can only be reduced.

Trying to stop those kind of shits is like trying to stop the rain. You don't. You build a roof and hope it doesn't leak on most people, or at least on the people that vote for your party.

It’s hard to have a clear view imo

For example... in an economic point of view, by legalizing sex work you do the same as legalizing marijuana... you generate an industry worth taxing.

In a moral point of view, it can bring long term problems that can cause a social erosion in the masses.

Not only you have illegal trade routes that amass billions due to sex trafficking (off illegal prostitution), at the same time you can find almost any sex worker who’s been “legally harassed”...

At the end of the day it’s a very hot toxic, personally I would feel that the economic/social gains in the long term - which would actually be a loss - are not worth legalization

Im for decriminalizing it.

Legalizing it the government would be up our butts.

I'll add, a good amount of independants already STD test regularly and pay taxes. We dont need the government telling us to test or pay taxes. We file as self employed or do out own payroll checks with a PEO or Gusto.

If we really want to go down the STD testing, then we should for the hookup culture as the spread there is worse.

Legalizing should be fine, so long as there's heavy regulation around women and men truly opting into it by virtue of freedom of choice and proper education. My issue with it is normalizing a profession that some people don't actually want to do, but are forced into. For those that willingly choose it: have at it.

It's a touchy issue. IMO, I don't think the government should actively attempt to shutdown women who are their own bosses when it comes to sex work.

I've recently got sucked into a youtube documentary recommendation rabbit hole about prostitution. I found one fact from it very memorable: in developed nations it is simply more economical for a pimp/brothel to hiring willing women to be prostitutes than to traffic women as sex slaves, it just doesn't take that much money for women to be willing.

Its the same way with any other profession. A worker incentivized by money are more productive than a slave. We hire miners and farmers to work instead of forcing slave to work, not only because its immoral (morals aren't what you call the guiding principle of business looking to make money anyways) but because it actually worse for the bottom line.

Screaming about human trafficking during discussions about prostitution is just as absurd as screaming slavery when discussing farming. Yea, there are women that get taken advantage, the same way that some farms take advantage and abuse illegal immigrants to do all the crop picking, but that happens in every industry and it just simply isn't the norm. With farming we don't ban it, we regulate it. There's definitely no reason prostitution shouldn't be the same.

On a spiritual level, that’s heading further into the belly of the beast. On a practical level, yes. Actually, hell yes. Better for the human race that certain genes don’t get passed on. Legalize and regulate it and that logically would help regulate sex trafficking. Yet, that’s probably me being an idealist, given prostitution is one of the oldest professions documented of mankind.
