I went through hell and back trying to get sterilised. My doctor agreed to do it at 33 (a month ago) after a second opinion in writing and an hour long psychiatric evaluation. Yet there are women being sterilised against their will for being the wrong skin tone 🤨

There is no chance of regret for me. This world is fucked politically and environmentally. The last thing I need is to end up getting knocked up by some scrote, then having him cheat on or abuse me and/or the kid. Or leave me as a single parent. Or kill us for leaving him. I don’t think there’s a single man alive I would feel safe breeding with.

My tubes are tied. I was really sick and it had to do with my tubes so I tied them at 29. I do have children though. I did it via IVF, which was fully covered by my job. So I did experience pregnancy, I just can’t get pregnant by surprise. It has to be planned. It worked out fine, but many doctors won’t do it when you have no children. So you’ll find to find someone who is willing🙄

Yup, got my tubes removed last year at 36. I was approved within the first 10 minutes of the first surgeon's office I walked into. The key was I picked the doctor ahead of time from the childfree sub's list of sterilization-friendly doctors, and off I went.

I don't regret my decision and doubt I ever will. I've never wanted kids.

You're asking this question for a reason. If you want to know whether YOU will regret your decision, nobody here can answer that for you.

I highly, highly recommend you bounce your feelings off a trusted therapist (shop around a bit until you find one you like). This isn't about getting someone else's answer, this is about you unpacking your feelings around this decision and finding your own answer.

I got my tubes tied at 25 after repeatedly asking my doctor to do it for years. I’m 32 now and have zero regrets. I knew I didn’t want children even when I was still a child myself and never once felt differently. I always found it so insulting when random people told me I’d change my mind when I met “the right man.” The right man for me would also hate children! I’ve ended relationships because of men who would be totally unable to care for a child or support one being like “oh but muh legacy” and insisting on having children.

I’m just like you, don’t want any kids. But not sure I’d go as far as getting my tubes tied, since it’s an invasive procedure and I’d rather not. Depending on your age doctors will give you a hard time about that also. If that’s what you want you should go for it, though. You can ask the childfree sub for doctor recommendations in your area, from women who already got theirs done.

I like the idea of never having to worry about why my period is late again, but female sterilization is a much more invasive procedure than male sterilization.

My problems with it:

I feel like dudes will use it as yet another excuse to try to get away with not wearing a condom (you can't get pregnant anyway 🙄🙄🙄)

It seems unfair that we should bear the reproductive burden YET AGAIN, when there's a 0% chance of getting pregnant if you never let a dude have sex with you.

The medical community is only just now studying the full extent of the connections between our reproductive system and the rest of our bodies, particularly the links between hysterectomies and early onset dementia.

I don't want to make any more compromises of my health for some dude's dick.

You might wanna check out the childfree sub, there's a loooooot of information, including doctors who will perform the procedure (based on location!), costs, experiences, etc. And you don't have to participate in the sub or be childfree to access this information!

I wanted to get one this year, but due to covid it didn't happen. I'm absolutely dead set on having one, either that or I'm cool being a virgin forever.

I'm 35 with no children. I don't want children and can't convince any doctor to do it. I really doubt I will regret it. I had a traumatic childhood and I am still healing. I know it would be irresponsible to have any children. The medical field is misogynistic and it's much easier for men to get vasectomies than it is for us to have sterilisation.

My mother had hers done at 26, after four children. My violent alcoholic stepfather is catholic and kept getting her pregnant.

I got my tubes completely removed not too long ago, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. If you truly do not want children, it’s a great way to make sure that doesn’t happen. Most often they do what’s called a Bilateral Salpingectomy. It’s as close to 100 percent as you can get, and involves the removal of both tubes/is permanent. Getting your tubes tied leaves a huge risk of ectopic pregnancy and is not as successful as the former!

I got my tubes removed two days ago, I’m 35.

So far I feel relieved and peaceful. There is no chance of regret for me, I’ve known this was the right thing for me to do for a long time.

The process was surprisingly easy for me. My GP referred me without hesitation, then the gynaecologist approved me after a short conversation, no counselling necessary. I thought it would be more difficult as I do not have children.

It was a hard decision because I was prego and excited for my third child. I went back and forth for a month or two about it.

I’m soooo happy that I did it though. It was time to stop for me. They wanted to put titanium in me and I was like... no. There are tons of options out there. Research the options until you find one that is right for you.
