Looks are critically important for women. If a little boy calls a little girl fat at an elementary school, that's practically the N-word. His parents are going to be summoned to the principal's office to address this hate crime. Fat women, ugly women - they know the score. Telling them the score is considered extremely rude. You're supposed to complement their shoes and nail polish and their ugly salon haircut and dance around the fact that they're fat and ugly and nobody is supposed to say it out loud.

Women treat guys that they aren't sexually attracted to like women. They don't tell the guys they're ugly. They assume they already know it and dance around the issue to avoid being rude, and tell them they have a good personality and to keep being themselves and they'll meet someone who loves them for that.

Have you ever considered that women care and think about orbiters far less than you think they do and the two phenomena are completely unrelated. 9 times/10 saying anything about the importance of looks when you give advice will get you painted as a shallow asshole. People have a tendency to avoid or dance around the subject. You'll often see "lose weight" dating advice by and for women conveyed as a confidence thing (working out makes you feel hotter!) than an attractiveness thing because that's a more socially acceptable way to frame it. Men will often convey the message "I don't find you attractive" by saying "you're not my type." The statement leaves just enough ambiguity for a variety of takeaways that may or may not (but usually is, as women learn on their own over time) be related to looks.

I think a lot of women who say that, say it because if they don't they will be deemed shallow or attacked for it, or want to spare someone's feelings. Part of it is virtue signaling though. I would say a very small percentage of women do not care about looks whatsoever if I had to guess I'd say around 5-10%. A percentage of women, especially younger ones, care solely or mostly about looks I'd guess women between ages 16-24, probably around about 20-30% of them. The rest are somewhere inbetween.

There are definitely women who want beta orbiters and give them false hope, but these are two slightly separate issues.

The concept of the woman who subsists off "orbiters" is kind of wild to me. The kind of woman to exploit the men in her life is equally likely to exploit the women in her life - women are slightly less likely to put up with the exploitation in the long term because there's little they hope to gain in return, and the value of her friendship quickly outweighs the trouble she's worth.

This view of the way the world works can't be applied to women as broadly as it is here. Most women are not getting a constant stream of freebies from blokes, thirsty or otherwise. Those that are exploit everyone in their lives, Anna Delvey style, as opposed to targeting men specifically.

Any decent looking woman can get “freebies” from men who are halfway attractive. Only truly ugly women need to settle for “disgusting” men - and honestly, that’s just two people who are looksmatched.

Because of our kids I still have to talk to my ex-wife. I'm not above messing with her if given the chance so I commented on how much weight her new guy has put on. With a straight face she tells me she likes chubby guys. Apparently she forgot that we lived together for eight years so I know that this isn't true. When women say "looks don't matter" we generally mean one of two things:

We're talking to an ugly person and don't want to hurt their feelings, same as how you don't tell your fat friend they look fat in that--if they're not stupid, they know they're fat, and they just want you to be kind to them.
They previously dated a very handsome guy who turned out to be dull or a jerk or otherwise unpleasant, and they're thinking of him and the bad memory and going "Ugh, not THAT again, I'd rather have a guy who looked like Spongebob Squarepants if he at least had a decent personality."

I think I actually realized that women say “looks don’t matter/ size doesn’t matter” when they have “feelings” for a person already.

However, if they do not know someone and/or have no feelings for them, then looks and penis size definitely matter.
