If you want SMV (Different from 'value') then you need to get ripped, end of discussion. Whilst being a martial artist will let some girls say "Oh he makes me feel safe" it pales in comparison to just being fit.

There's a difference between martial arts and self defense.

A guy who knows Krav Maga will have a much better chance of defending himself against multiple opponents compared to a guy who has experience sparring with one karate partner.

That being said, I would strongly recommend Krav Maga to anyone who who is looking for a good way to gain confidence and meet alpha males.

I opted only for martial arts, only because of limited time due to work its hard to get both in. I live downtown and things get shady at night, so for me it made more sense, especially since I go out to clubs where alot of wannabe thugs are always sizing my white-ass up when I'm talking to a girl.

***When I mean martial arts, I'm talking about getting in a ring with gloves on and getting your ass kicked - not some pussy karate crap.

Both have merits, but here's the thing you gotta consider: Being able to throw down is way sexier to a girl then how much you bench, but its not something you can boast about without coming off like a major tool. Unless you find yourself in a situation, or the conversation brings it up, the fact that you know how to kick ass is not readily apparent as visibly being capable as benching this girl on top of you.

So for passive game or standing out amongst the crowd of guys, lifting trumps. It's even better for you finally bang her and she get's a first hand demonstration. But past that I would say martial arts is way better for building and maintaining your harem because your capable of handling a variety of potential conflicts. What both have in common is that they bring about an aura of strength that women crave.

On a side note about fighting, just look at how many girls in r/relationships complain about losing attractiveness to their SO after he pussied out of a confrontation. One girl actually masterbated to a guy who beat up her boyfriend. Ever since I picked up boxing my confidence level skyrocketed. It was evident in the way I moved, my walk, how I held myself - especially around bigger guys. Girls pick up on that and it goes along way that simply lifting weights can't achieve. If your in college or urban environments and you pursue aggressive game, you need to be prepared and confident that you can handle whatever comes your way.

I guess if you lift weights and get big enough, you'll probably intimidate average guys and attract girls. Being big would most likely deter most people from starting some sort of altercation with you.

Learning how to fight wont get you huge and chances are nobody will recognize you as someone who can fight. Maybe SOME average guys will be intimidated by you and maybe SOME girls will be attracted lol. Based solely on looks that is.

I'm going with lifting as being more beneficial because average guys would most likely shy away from upsetting somebody that's big and ripped.

I'm encouraged by this topic. As a relative beginner in weight lifting, I can tell you why I choose it over martial arts.

When I first started looking at PUA and RP material, I naturally resisted like a lot of plugged in folks do. But one thing that struck me about the difference between the two was this. While RP always seems to have been about awareness and improvement of traits, there's an element of PUA that seems to be more about spoofing those traits, if not actually possessing them.

Basically, my impression of PUA is that it took what we would consider RP awareness as to how women are and how their hamsters operate, and then utilized that awareness to trigger a response in a woman's psyche to build attraction.

For example, RP basically says, "improve yourself, focus on your mission and women will be drawn to you." Where PUA seems to say, "here's how to draw women to you regardless of your mission. Here's how to trigger those subconscious responses to build attraction, regardless of whether you actually possess those deeper traits." Of course there comes a point where if you are working hard to spoof those traits, you might as well work hard to genuinely acquire them. Thus the natural crossover from PUA into RP.

Regarding physique, the assumption is that women are instinctively drawn to strength in men as a survival mechanism. A women feels safe and gets tingly knowing she's got the guy who can defend her from threats, or so the thinking goes.. Unfortunately, the modern woman who still instinctively might be drawn to strength in this fashion is going to interpret strength differently than an ancient woman. She's not only been conditioned by the feminist imperative to misunderstand what strength is on a practical level, she's also been conditioned by Hollywood and romance novel artwork to have a specific idea of what that strength looks like.

The result is, in modern times, a woman isn't likely to be drawn to the men who are most likely to be able to protect them...unless she actually sees the guy win a fight. Whereas with a bodybuilder or weightlifter, the "strength" is readily apparent, even if the guy couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag.

So I think the upshot here is that ideally, you want a little bit of both. But martial arts is more likely to give you a fighting advantage while lifting is more likely to give you a social advantage.

I want the social advantage. Sure I'd like to be able to defend myself in a fight so I'll probably dabble in it once I reach some fitness goals. But I'm more interested in having women drawn to me, projecting confidence at a job interview, that kind of thing. If I wanted to win fights, it would probably be more advantageous to conceal my ability and cultivate a smaller, leaner frame.

I liken it to an animal that, as a defense mechanism, can flare out a part of it's body to appear bigger than it actually is. A beta fish that flares his gills or a lizard that has those flaps of skin that flare out when they feel threatened. I don't feel that kind of advantage is superficial. It works in the animal kingdom. Why wouldn't it work among humans.

Of course the danger in this approach is ending up looking jacked but being easy to take down by a fighter that knows what he's doing.

TL;DR... I think it's about which advantage you want to focus on. Martial arts for fighting ability, lifting for social advantage. Both improve posture and build confidence. I don't know how martial arts affects testosterone but lifting does for sure. I think either choice is equally valid and ultimately, a well-rounded red pill man will want to embrace both in the long run. But for me it's all about lifting.

i used to be a really shy, introverted type of kid and martial arts was able to get me out of my shell. the idea was that i had to expand my body, and own the space around me, forcing me to have confidence. its hard to lack confidence and do kung-fu stlye, big circle, forms and be reserved. you also learn, from martial arts how to change your emotions (or at least in my experience) from calm to explosive back to calm like you would with your muscles. this can give you a new found control of your body, both physically and mentally, that many don't have. martial arts helps from within more than anything, because you cant see that someone has done martial arts from their looks (for the most part). like 98% of my friends don't know that i have done martial arts and the other 2% know that I've done it but have never seen me do it or even know anything about it even though i had done multiple martial arts over the time span of 9 years. on the meanwhile, everyone can see that i lift, having lifted for football for x number of years my body is just naturally big. i have a athletic looking body and not ashamed of it at all but i never got confidence from that because the confidence formed from that is formed by external stimuli, not internal. and internal stimuli is the only reason why i do anything anyways; i only do things because i want to, or if i don't want to do something, it is one of the steps to doing or getting what i want. i also thought that being big made me scarier to other people which made it hard for me to talk to other people making me shy. so in conclusion, except for the obvious health benefits of course, its how you interpret these two ideas, not the actions themselves that you benefit from. also girls care more about confidence than pure looks, usually though, good looks give way to confidence Martial arts ive done: American Kenpo, Judo, Shotokan Karate, (a little of) kung fu, jujitsu, kendo i own a Tapout shirt so you know im serious.

A lot of martial arts are basically forms of dance and have little to no application in a fight setting.

That said, I believe it has a lot of value as a sport, hobby, exercise. (So does dance.)

Weightlifting builds muscle. Can't fake that.

If your main deficit is confidence, go with martial arts. If your main deficit is low SMV due to appearance, lift. You can do a mix of both.

I used to do martial arts. Right now I'm doing yoga and lifting. For me, this is a great balance.

Aesthetically, probably weight lifting. But in terms of practical benefits (self esteem, discipline and the obvious benefits of self defence) martial arts are better.

Weight lifting is better for aesthetics and if you want a girl to be attracted to you just by looking at you.

Martial Arts is better functionally, since a guy with MA experience can take down a man twice his size easily.

So if you are in an environment where one gets into fist fights alot, do MA, if you are in college, weight lift, if you got the time, do both.

They both have immense value. Ideally you want to be doing both activites in tandem. You will get less injuries from kickboxing, mma if you're working out also.

You always want to have a burn period in your gym work out regardless and mma, kickboxing, etc are PERFECT for this and you learn how to fight!

Objectively speaking it has to be martial arts. It will work you hard depending on which school you go to, you will learn to defend, you can spar with others putting what you learned into practice. You will get a nice rush from being in martial arts. Also, you can learn to defend yourself against people who are stronger and taller than you.

Weight lifting will increase your strength, make you look more healthier, and it is an easy way to increase your SMV. Not to mention it will make you look better as a whole. But if you don't know how to use that strength in a fight then you are screwed.

I am former black belt who was in Tae Kwon Do so I speak from experience.

If you can, do both.

If you are in a good martial arts club with lots of sparring, you will gain stamina. Weights for the muscles.

If you can only choose one, do the one you love best.

Weight lifting and martial arts have different objectives. Figure out which one benefits you more and do it, or do both. Don't worry about what women like because that is very fluid and changes over time.

Martial arts provide more value, but deterring fights is also a form of self-defense, so it helps to have a muscular physique. I am currently doing heavy lifting to add another 20 pounds and then I will transition back to Muay Thai early next year for the conditioning.

If you're going to do martial arts and be remotely credible at it you have to be in good shape.

The same is not true of lifting but you can easily lift and get totally destroyed by an MA guy. Strength and size matter a lot but again most MA guys are in incredible shape, especially these days.
