Q4MEN: Married or engaged men, what was the most important advice your mother told you in looking for a wife?

Not so much advice as an example of women not to marry.

As it happens all women are a bit irrational at times but most wont try and stab you when they get upset

Advice from my mom was essentially that all relationships are built on two (and only two) of three foundations. I can't remember exactly what her terminology was but they were essentially:

Friendship, shared values, spiritual attraction and family goals
Common passion related to work, social or humanitarian causes
Physical attraction and sex

The most important thing she could have done was to keep her mouth shut. She didn't, though. Almost all the advice she gave was utter shit. Except this one thing which both she and dad said:

-find someone whose priorities are most like yours on these things: religion, kids and finances.

It's too bad they left out "sexual attraction". (Cuz moms and dads cant say to their son "find a girl who likes getting fucked by you." But the advice was good as far as it went.

Red pill.

My mother advised me not to marry my now ex wife. Her reasons were that American women couldn't make good wives. For the first few years, she seemed to be wrong. But she was right all along.

I wish I had listened instead of putting my "this is racist and I am a good little BP Tradcon who is a modern man and doesn't mind if his wife sometimes leaves most of the household chores to me" cap on.

My mom is extremely class conscious and she basically told me not to marry somebody from a working class or underclass background. That was the main thrust of her advice to me. Her reasoning was mostly that it would reflect poorly on her.

My mother always told me to look for a wife who makes more money than me so she couldn't divorce rape me. And also not to marry a white girl for that exact same reason.

Other than that I got basically nothing in terms of relationship advice from my parents.

And to that end, I haven't heard any good advice from women for men when it comes to marriage.

Mostly blue, and recently engaged: The only advice my mom gave me on the subject was to find someone that made me happy.

My grandmother, with whom I was very close, said the same thing. being an old Arab woman, however, she had to add "as long as she isn't black"

My mother gave me all kind of shitty advice. 30 odd years ago.

What is funny is I had to deconstruct who I was dating because I was dating a lot of women just like my mom; loud, high maintenance, flashy, more about appearance than substance. Not particularly intelligent.

"Play the field. Dont get tied down." That was the biggest message from her. This was after about 6 years of dating women one after another. I settle down with one "She doesnt like" because she is too quiet and doesnt speak up.

I find it strange how common relationship advice from parents is on here and reddit in general. My parents never told me anything, it was very much a figure it out as you go along approach.

The mosgt impotant piece of advice my mother ever gave me had nothing, directly, to do with women.

I was 5 years old and went crying to mama saying "He pushed me down and took my toy"

My mother's adice was "Push him down and take your toy back." ush You don't have to be a shit about it, but push people and take what is yours.

To never invest in a low quality woman, as in somebody who won't do laundry, dishes, take care of kids etc.

Someone who is close to her family, good morals, traditional in beliefs or have strong affiliation to their culture but strong minded also. Someone who is lady-like, mostly gentle and patient.

Basically the opposite of a heck of a lot of women or should I say "girls" today.
