I don't see how you can compare male and female attractiveness like this. It doesn't make sense in my brain. Aside from general things like symmetry and complexion, the features that make men and women attractive are totally different. A man with broad shoulders, a square jaw and thick, dark body hair is going to be sexy to a lot of women; a woman with those features is going to look gross. A woman with a little pointy chin, wide hips and shapely legs will be attractive to a lot of men; a man with those features would be effeminate and unappealing.

So when you say women are more "beautiful" than men I think well, yes, duh, but "beauty" isn't what makes men attractive to a lot of women. But maybe that's just semantics, idk.

physical attractiveness isn't necessarily inheiritable because many of the things that make men physically attractive are definitely NOT the same as the things that make women attractive. and since children receive anmix of genetic material from both parents, a tall, muscular, strong jawed man (handsome) may have kids with a petite, very feminine woman (beautiful) but they could easily end up having tall, muscular, strong jawed daughters or petite feminine looking sons.

It’s hard to say that women are more beautiful because if every man went to the gym for an hour everyday, then I think the beauty gap would shrink considerably.

If men put the same amount of work as women into their appearance and photos, the beauty gap would shrink considerably.

It would be interesting to find out if this finding was replicated, because there are plenty of social science findings that end up being BS. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a myth. It makes a good sound-clip, so it's easy to see how it could spread regardless of it's veracity.

Also, if this was true, I would wonder if we should also find that couples with more positive attributes are more likely to have males - since males have higher reproductive variability. Small, weak males are unlikely to leave any offspring. Large, successful males can leave plenty. But, females are likely to have a few children regardless of how good or bad their genes are. This suggests that parents with a good "genetic hand" should have more sons, and parents with a bad "genetic hand" should have daughters.

It's also known that short males and tall females have more trouble finding partners. This suggests that tall parents should have more sons and short parents should have more daughters. Or, at least, it's in their genetic interest to do so (if evolution can find a mechanism to make that happen).

complete bullshit, if you saw the average girl without makeup you'd quickly realize that the average guy isn't that far behind. Now also factor in how much girls care about appearance compared to guys. All things accounted for I'd say it probably comes out at about even.

I am 100% straight and my attraction toward the average girl without make up is about equal as my attraction to toward the average guy. i.e it is more or less non-existent. I am not sure where this narrative that "average girls" are hot comes from. Usually it becomes quite evident that they aren't when you see them without makeup.

What do they mean by "on average" ? Like on a scale of 1-10, the average male rating was like 4? While female 6?

If so, I can tell you that this most likely speaks to women having more widely varying tastes in men.

They have slightly more "personalized" preferences, so they will, on an individual basis, be attracted to different men than their friends, for example... (e.g. not the same 10 or 20% of men).

Women don't have more facial symmetry than men. Genes that determine facial symmetry aren't passed on through the x chromosome. Those two facts debunk the whole article you just linked.

Women are more in demand then men. This is wholly due to men having on average higher sex drives. When you have a limited supply vs a high demand you create value.

I would argue that men on average are more attractive then women. This is because to be competitive and desirable a guy has to really take care of himself much more then a woman does. When I go to the gym is usually a 70/30 ratio of men to women. If you pay attention in public places you'll probably notice the ratio of obesity is higher among women; it's my opinion that they don't have to try very hard to find a partner so they just don't.

Most women are fundamentally basically, somewhat attractive to most men. Most men are neutral at best to most women, if not outright unattractive to them.

This makes sense from a totally subjective, evolutionary standpoint. For men, the energy and danger cost to reproduction is essentially zero. Therefore it makes sense for a man to be attracted to most of the women he sees, so that he's got a better chance of reproducing successfully. For a woman, the danger and energy cost of reproduction is, as you probably know, fucking 'YUGE. So it's in a woman's best interests to make sure that whatever man she chooses to be the instigator of that danger is DAMNED worth it.

This is accurate? The problem is that it just kind of assumes that attractive people are more likely to have daughters than unattractive people. Furthermore, when I tried to look into his sources, it just linked to more articles of his, where he references studies, but never actually cites any I can look into. More disturbingly, the sources he talks about consist of things like whether or not teachers would describe their seven year old students as attractive.

Furthermore, he refers to a generalized Trivers-Willard Hypothesis. The Trivers-Willard Hypothesis suggests that in hard times, polygynous animals choose to have more females, and in good times, they choose to have more males. This is because in hard times, breeding at all is vital, so females are more valuable, whereas in good times, there are plenty of females to breed, so males, who can breed with many females, are the better investment of resources. This only confuses things more, because this seems to me to be the opposite of what the article-writer is suggesting. The article-writer is suggesting that beautiful people have more daughters, yet beautiful people are advantaged over ugly people, so if we were to take the Trivers-Willard Hypothesis and apply it to humans, you'd expect beautiful people to have more males, not females.
