Yes, it is a random number. Is there a single person on the face of the Earth who don't think that? But we got to have the number somewhere (it's 15, btw. in Denmark where I'm from), and if not 18, then what other random number would you choose which is any less random. 18 works for me, but I'd add a Romeo & Juliet clause, so that for instance people younger than that can have sex if they're within around 2 years of each other. a 17yo and a 19yo, a 15yo and a 14yo, even a 17yo and a 25yo - but not a 52yo dude and a 15yo girl.

Also, the reddit obsession with very young girls having sex and getting married. No, it was never very common in Western civilisation. It happened now and again, but average age of marriage tended to be somewhere in the 20s. And for good reason. She may have big tits even at 13, but she isn't physical ready to bear children, and she isn't mentally ready for the responsibility. Because child.

The age of consent laws are not there to say people under a certain age are not attractive, can not bear children, are not of a age where they want sex.

It is simply a cut off for persons under that age's consent to sex is not recognized by the law. It is 16 in most cases in the UK. For positions of trust (Tutors etc) it is 18. Mental health disabilities are another area where given consent may not be recognized by law.

Is it arbitrary? Some ways yes, some ways no, it is trying to tie in with ability to have sex and brain development, likelihood for manipulation by elders statistics on how many people under the age of consent are sexually active are used in discussions etc. The only arbitrary part is not everyone develops at exactly the same time, but short of putting everyone through brain scans to check they are developed enough a cut off age is the best we are going to get.

I've read over many consent laws in different countries and my fave are the ones with Romeo and Juliet laws, this allows young people to have sex with each other while keeping elders out. I think 16 as a standard, 18 for positions of trust is fairly solid. People want to protect their children from predators; and this is as much for young males as it is for young females.

I would doubt it's completely random. It links up with one's graduation from High School. The official end of a young person's mandatory education. Both considered a moment of advancement into adulthood.

You sound incredibly paranoid about women! Yes, we all got together after age 20 and decided collectively that it would be in our interest to create an age of consent (that goes for both genders, btw) because otherwise men would only ever want sex/relationships/offspring with 13-18 year olds...

Man, no one is saying that it's impossible to find a 14 year old girl attractive - hell, I started puberty at 11 and looked a lot older than I was by 12. Would that make it ok for some 20 year old man to start asking/grooming me for sex though? I don't see a man who admits to finding a 15 year old attractive as perverse - some of them undeniably are attractive - but I think acting on that as a fully grown man is perverse. There's something to be said for mind over matter - what our base drives lust after and what is right are not always the same thing....

The law is a bit arbitrary and can be unfair in some cases (although in many countries the age of consent is 16, so it's obviously somewhat subjective) - but it also protects a lot of very young people from being coerced into sex before they are emotionally able to handle all that comes with it....Full cognitive and emotional function is pretty universally excepted to only come at the age of 18 or older (some studies say not until 25 or 30 are we rationally fully developed!) - I personally wouldn't want to have a sexual relationship with someone that wasn't fully functioning mentally, even if their genitals were....I'd think of it the same way as I would having sex with someone who was of low IQ or mentally diminished in some other way...It's predatory...

But seeing as there are a lot of RP men here who argue that fully adult women are children and intellectually inferior, then I guess they might see it differently - women are all game as long as they're physically attractive?

Most of our moral is built to prevent some bad situations to happen. Eventually we forget why that moral was initially here and some moral rules can be outdated. Example: some religion forbids eating pork, there were reasons back then, but this is obsolete now.

16... 18... 21... Those are random numbers, but the moral rule is not outdated, we want to avoid teenagers to have relations with adults because "we estimate" that there is much more potential for abuse. The problem relies in the fact that the punishments are automatic while the damages aren't.

People that will claim that you're abnormal and monstrous for finding teenagers sexually attractive are clusterfuck stupid and they are legion on the internet. Some people tried to harass me, telling me bullshit such as reporting me to CIA, for stating that there's nothing abnormal with being sexually attracted to a teenager...

Possibly things have changed in a year - you change pretty rapidly at that age....Anyway, what's your alternative? No age of consent - so men and women are free to seek out sexual relations with anyone as long as they are physically capable of sex? The law is there to protect the vulnerable, doesn't mean it's perfect, but the alternative of no age of consent is pretty scary...Do you think an adult (let's say 20+) having sex with a 14 year old is really fine in ththe majority of cases?

What's weird to me is the mindset. I'm 24 now and look 18/19 but I also looked 18-19 when I was 14 because I had the same body but what made me look younger was my choice of clothes and makeup.

If I was a guy and would I fuck my 14 year old self? Hell no. Cause I was dumb and immature and talked about stupid shit.

And I guess it also goes back to the "could be your daughter" thing if a woman reminds you of your daughter you shouldn't fuck her

Interestingly, the age of consent started going up around the same time that women started gaining more rights, so its not inconceivable that it was used as a strategy by older women to boost their own value by decreasing competition

Consent is tied to as old as you have to be before dad doesn't go to jail if you fuck something up.

Has nothing to do with how plump the kids tits are, and if she loves blowing guys on the reg.

And if we based it on people being fully grown and responsible, age of consent would be 32
