Because America was first colonized by puritans and we've had a violent history with revolution, civil war and westward expansion. Both are deep in our culture.

I don't think it affects the dating market much tbh.

I've thought about this a number of times throughout my life, and at this point I'm convinced it's just the culture. Go to Europe and you can see places where they censor violence but have titties on billboards. People try to push back against both in America and Europe.

I don't think the restrictions are that severe in either place, so I don't know if it has an effect.

That said, I think porn has influenced us culturally, and for the better. Feminist fearmongering of course tries to make it seem that porn (like everything else) will cause an terrible undue burden on young women, saddling them with "unrealistic expectations." In my experience, girls now are far, far more into dirty shit like deepthroating and anal. Which as far as I'm concerned is great.

this is really stupid im sorry, nudity and language are regulated on NETWORK tv, because we still have the dinosaur FCC which regulates the sexual and "bad language" content of BROADCAST tv and radio, its not the PEOPLE who are prudish, its a ancient unmoving government agency. cable tv isnt regulated for content by the FCC and thats why theres porn on cinemax and in HBO shows.

no one under 70 watches network tv anymore, do they? i mean im old as the hills and i havent seen network tv in over 10 years

Americans aren't prudish about porn. Now 11 year olds are on porn and by the time people turn 16 they've pretty much seen every sex act and crazy fetish.

Most world cultures aren't like the French about porn either. America is not "uniquely prudish" and France isn't "the world".

Go look at media in any country. American TV has more sex than most countries outside of a few places in Western Europe.

I don't think this has much effect on the current dating market, but there was a couple hundred years of sexual repression. Sexuality was looked down upon for a long time, now a days most 14 year olds have seen it all on the internet.

I believe its fucked up this generation a bit. The dating market has less people in it because people are too scared to go approach girls. The red pill exists and the incel sub.

The issue is the lack of nudity in mainstream media combined with the unlimited availability of porn has created a society of fuckers, and wanabe fuckers, who literally cant sustain a relationship for jack shit, yet they want to fuck everything in sight.

One of the most bizarre manifestations of this was with the video for Paranoid Android

It was animated and included sequences with topless mermaids and a guy getting his limbs cut off with a chainsaw. Much Music, in Canada, censored the chainsaw images while MTV, in the USA, censored the cartoon boobies.

Americans arent prudish about porn. They have a schizophrenic relationship with nudity. I can see "rape" involving short cuts and clothing on network TV late at night, think crime dramas. I cannot show a woman's tits while she walks around her house, as people do IRL. This may contribute to why wide angles are less common in American pornography and why a genre involving speculums exists.

The Puritans isn't quite the right answer - sexual freedom for men (ie brothels and mistresses) was no less common for Americans than Europeans for most of our history. It's only in the early 20th century that you see open prostitution regulated out of existence and later a more generalized attack on sexuality (particularly 'deviant') with things like the Hays Code heavily restricting sexuality in popular media.

I'm not an expert by any means but this seems to have started with the Third Great Awakening - those particular Protestant revivalists also fed into temperance societies and early drug prohibition and other forms of social control. (Women were key to all these movements - which is how we get criminalized sex work but also universal suffrage.)
