Yes, I think both men and women vastly over rate their own physical attractiveness, they are not very self aware about traits they have that may be off putting, and they often fall into dating patterns and don't do a stop, drop, and roll about why that is. I am average I think in terms of looks, I do go the gym and watch my weight but Brad Pitt is not going to be interested in me. If I was interested in dating I might think that an average looking guy might be interested in me or not, who knows.

I have a male acquaintance who has complained to me he only attracts "damaged" women, well he is pretty damn damaged as well. I have a female friend who complains men only want her for sex, well she always fucks them the first time she meets them.

People often enter dating being very unclear about what they want and they end up with other vague people who don't know what they want and they end up getting hurt and then making pretty global assessments about others. One big thing women do is they fall for some guy who says he does not want a relationship, they sleep with him, then he backs off or does not act like he is in a relationship and they end up confused and hurt. If somebody tells me "hey I don't want a relationship" and I think "hey I want a relationship" then I think, hmmmmmm this person is not for me, no point in spending time with them. People often look to dating to fills holes in their lives, they are lonely or bored or something else and it often just does not work out because of that.

Hm.

[–]trail225 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Honestly I think its the opposite.

I think the people who are in relationships feel entitled to them when really it was as much luck as their great strengths.

Then they look at the people who fail and they say, well I succeed because I am better then them. Then proceed to list upon them a number of faults all controllable, without missing the big picture.

That way they can feel superior and not feel any empathy for those who try and fail with women.

I mean most people won't even admit that height and race matter a lot in dating. Even when they themselves dont find certain races attractive, or find people of a certain height unattractive. Even if it is plainly proven scientifically over and over.

They always point to others who succeed because anecdotal evidence is best.

[–]anitapkcsarlbmed ggse3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Totally agree with this

I don't see entitlement when someone asks the universe why the fuck he is lonely just curiosity and sadness

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well apparently the vast majority of people do.

What really gets me is how people won't tell the truth - that you are ugly, etc. They just keep spewing BS platitudes and false compliments. Or get angry you want to meet people and sperg about how 'YOU DONT NEED TO DO THAT. D:<'.

I suspect the false sense of normality this stuff creates plays a part in the 'entitlement'.

[–]anitapkcsarlbmed ggse0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I suspect the false sense of normality this stuff creates plays a part in the 'entitlement'.

I don't understand this sentence. Who feels entitled due to this normality?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The people coming off as entitled. i suspect it has to do with people not being honest with them.

If you ever tried to set up a date for your bro that's struggling with women for years you notice that this is true. Women that I'd happily take aren't good enough for them. It's like the longer someone is a virgin the more specific their preferences become (or always were but it only becomes evident when they don't want any of the available women) and the harder it gets for them to judge their league.

Even if they have got nothing going on, don't put any effort into their appearance, are downers and constantly talk shit about others they think that they are somehow better than others.

There's always something wrong about her that others wouldn't even notice or care about. She listens to music he doesn't like, his brother dated her five years earlier, her fingers are too short, etc.

They come up with any reason so that they don't have to risk letting her close.

I think a big reason for this is fear and insecurity. They want women, but they don't want to risk getting rejected or don't expect that anyone could be attracted to them so that's why they hamster away every potential partner.

And then they fall in love with a chick that's already in a relationship with another guy and start orbiting her, but again I think that's the fear. They choose to fall in love with one that they know that they can't get so that they don't have to worry about getting rejected. They have already been rejected from the start and that's a more comfortable thought than otherwise.

Someone that isn't entitled and doesn't have high standards can, in most cases, find someone on their level, but fat people for example mostly don't want to date other fat people. But they are also too lazy to lose weight themselves so they can't get anything unless they are lucky.

This is really a perfect description of people I have met like this. I know women like this too, but it seems to be affecting men a lot more lately.

I do think that having early sexual experiences is a pivotal part of development. I don't think you're a goner if you lose your virginity in your 20s, but people it doesn't help.

When I first started to notice the opposite sex it was entirely celebrities and the occasional popular guys. I dated my first boyfriend after attraction eventually developed and now I find myself attracted in men who vaguely remind me of him and his features. This continued to happen with other men I was intimate with. Its like I have a portfolio of stuff I like that isn't "perfect" and positive memories surrounding these things.

With men I think it works similarly, with a lot of pornography rerouting this natural adaption process + thinking they need to date a hot chick in order to be respected or dating a woman who isn't great looking will lower their status more than their own appearance does already.

Say you're an out of shape guy but know you can get rock hard for chubby women because you finger banged a chubby girl at 14 and now you fondly remember her dimply ass or her puffy nipples or whatever. Those guys do fine. Those without that experience only have romantic themes in movies in which they get reward with hot women for being themselves, or modern pornography where slim 20 year olds are pining to physically suffer for your enjoyment.

No offense, but I don't think women who can easily get sex/relationships just for existing, can be in a position to make judgments as to the psychological nature of men who never so much as held a girl's hand.

Only those who've been there done that can provide an accurate assessment.

[–]sublimemongrelBecky, Esq.6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I tend to agree there's something to be said for experiencing something rather than just witnessing (although witnessing can provide its own, objective value). That being said red pill likes to tell me all the time how my own sexual attraction works.

You don't tell nobody when they can and can't fucking talk.

Begins her vitriol with "Shut the fuck up."

You don't know this woman's life or experiences.

If I said that I thought the reason why women don't walk the streets alone at night with the same levels of comfort as a man is because they were a bunch of scaredy cats who watched too much of The View, I think roughly 95% of the words in your response would contain "harassment", "assault", and "rape". Point being that there are some privileges a certain demographic enjoys that disqualifies them from judging another's inability to enjoy said privileges.

Like, who are you?

My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.

[–]SkrattGoddess1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But she lived through that experience.

So sort of like how puppies need to be exposed to stimuli during their formative stage so they don't grow up to be fearful of strangers or other dogs or fireworks?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I've had friends like this..

I eventually told one of them he was fat and looked liked shit so if he wanted a hot girl he needed to do something about it.

[–]wombatinaburrowfeminist marsupial1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I said that my brother in law, after a 6 hour car trip with him moaning about "picky bitches" the whole way. He didn't speak to me for 6 months. He's still fat, smelly and single.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Noone ever told me that. :/

[–]absurdlivingghost0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

God, I wish those were my issues. I'm too ugly to ever be lovable, but still let myself get close to (single) women.

[–]WavesAcross0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Spot on. Though I wouldn't say they are entitled. Their entitlement is a mask to their insecurity.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not so much a sense of entitlement as it is an inability to grasp their shortcomings and idealizing romance to an impossible degree. Even while dating someone, a lot of people are chasing a rainbow of "could be's" or "would be's" that only exists in their own minds. It's like changing the goal post, for every positive they find in a partner, there's a million more positives that they could be having with someone else. It's like not being satisfied that you're earning a living wage when you could be earning an upper middle class wage. Sometimes we have to observe ourselves practically and decide what's a reasonable expectation. The happiest people have lower expectations, it's been proven time and time again.

But, we keep up this fairy tale that "you'll know they're the one" when in reality, it's a more mundane decision.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i dont' think so.

i think people who are dating today just don't know the realities of aging. they think they can just date indefinitely and marriage just magically happens and it can happen at any point when they DECIDE to get married. whether they are 20 or 40.

this clearly isn't the case.

[–]NalkaNalkayou call it virtue, I call it cowardice3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (31 children) | Copy Link

Yes plenty of younger people grow up thinking that they should not have to do anything hard or uncomfortable to get what they want.

[–]BiggerDthanYouBluetopia2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

We need to start a petition for Trump to encourage physical activity in schools.

Most schools in America don't even offer PE and don't even have recess. No wonder that so many are fat if they never even learn how to do basic exercise at home, how good it feels, how to eat correctly and how important it is.

[–]Offhisgame0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Wait what? Is this new? My high school didnt have recess but up until gr 8 we had 2 15m recess 1 hour lunch and gym 3 of 5 days a week...

Canada that is though. I see a good number of fat adults but as a kid i didnt see many fat kids

[–]BiggerDthanYouBluetopia0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Is this new?

I read an article once that it's steadily getting less and less since the last decades.

[–]Offhisgame0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Weird. In the 90s we def had tons of exercise. High school is the key though. Thats where you form the habits youll keep into college. In our pe class we even went to the gym sometimes and worked out. Guys pe class

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2012/07/11/education/even-as-schools-battle-obesity-physical-education-is-sidelined.html

In its biennial survey of high school students across the nation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in June that nearly half said they had no physical education classes in an average week. In New York City, that number was 20.5 percent, compared with 14.4 percent a decade earlier, according to the C.D.C.

Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, found just 20 percent of elementary schools in San Francisco’s system were meeting the state’s requirements: 20 minutes per day.

“There is shrinking P.E. and recess time for our kids,” Dr. Ratey wrote. “P.E. teachers are fighting like cats and dogs to hold the line on their jobs and worth, at the same time as there is a dawning awareness that we have missed the boat.”

Yeah it's really sad that PE is often one of the first places where they cut.

[–]Offhisgame0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Boobear30 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

[–]Boobear30 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You know, I sincerely don't have a huge opinion on him. Not a supporter nor a hater. I'm not into politics. But I think part of his "high energy" bit is just that hes a little mentally unstable. He tweets crazy shit at 4 am. That doesn't mean he's healthy for his age. There's even rumors he does coke. And he's overweight. You just can't see his big belly in his suits.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Falkner19923 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

It's not. That's just a line feminists use to besmirch romantically-unsuccessful guys. Truth is a lot of guys don't have any options to begin, and guys need to fuck; it's an integral part of their growing process. And because they refuse to suffer quietly, feminists get pissy and start slinging mud at them.

And look, when you have no real options to begin with, it takes as much effort to fap to mental images of a supermodel as it does for a regular Plain Jane. So why even waste time fantasizing about the Plain Jane?

[–]wombatinaburrowfeminist marsupial0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

No. Absence of attractive traits, or presence of unattractive ones, is a bigger factor. Entitlement is one of them, but the ForeverAlone types aren't overly entitled by any means. They're socially awkward, ugly, depressed, and anxious, but not entitled.

Has this changed from past times?

It's one factor but I don't think it's the only one. There are many without a sense of entitlement who struggle just because they don't understand the people who they are trying to attract or because they have anxiety issues.

I think that's part of it.

I've also been saying for years that people don't give work and financial stress enough credit for ruining relationships.

People work stupid hours, spend too much. I can honestly say it caused problems in my last relationship. She got on a different schedule then me and things went to shit instantly

Isn't financial stress #1 these days for killing relationships?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It is, but when couples break up all they talk about is how bad the other one was. I think most couples don't even realize the reason they had problems to begin with

Agree.

I think it's more the fact that parenting has changed. Parents are too soft. Do people's parents yell at them to sit up straight anymore? Do parents tell their kids they are getting fat? There is an over emphasis on self-discipline and an under emphasis on parental discipline. Parents just let their kids play video games all the time and grow up with shitty personalities. Parents used to discipline. Now when kids are fuck ups who get bad grades, parents just tell them to develop self-discipline because they can't be bothered to discipline them. Contrast that with Asian parents and Asians way outperforming Whites in American schools. Parents take surprisingly little interest in making sure that their kid is gonna be able to score a quality partner when they grow up. They should be asking themselves "is my kid a catch?"

In other words, people seem more entitled than ever before and it's because they are less satisfied because they are less attractive because their parents were too soft.

Then you get a lot of asians complaining about being overlooked in dating as well.

I can't speak for men, but for women, yes. The entitlement (entitlement to have a guy who does/is XYZ) prevents them from having a dating life at all. It's not the only factor. Mistrust of one's own judgement also comes into play here (people avoiding certain dating situations because they don't trust themselves to weed out bad people).
