The election is causing some of my friends to act erratically. I was talking to a guy who volunteered at a soup kitchen with me, I also know him from ows, and he was accusing me of being an evil Freemason.

This is because I compared liberals and conservatives to Athens and Sparta. This triggered him. He won't believe that the Masons are just a frat for adults and not a "eugenics conspiracy".

Apparently becoming an abandoned warehouse squatter has changed his personality. He is trying to get custody of his kids and is angry that the gov't doesn't want them to live in an abandoned warehouse.

He also said that the Freemasons were controlling NASA and insisted that the ancient Greeks and Romans came from Mauritania. He kept trying to press me for a $5.

This is completely random, but I had the urge to write it and I needed a place to post it. So bear with me a moment if you would.

A lot of people are upset right now. A lot of them are scared. They’ve watched Trump over the entirety of this election, they’ve listened to his words and taken him at face value as he presented himself. He’s said a lot over the course of the election that can be considered bigoted and racist. That can be considered hateful. And he has a history of the same, as well as a history of buying into conspiracy theories and lying. It’s all there. Personally, I’ve never had much regard for him and the campaign has done nothing to improve my view of him.

But we should not let the next four years change who we are. Some people have decided protest is appropriate. Some dismiss this as sour grapes but you know what? Protest and free expression of ideas is a part of this country’s heritage. Even when people are protesting what I like, so no, not just now. Though we must look down on those who resort to violence, as some are inevitably going to. Life goes on. Progress must still be made. Being mired in fear for the future won’t change what is to come. Keeping focused and keeping your thoughts on what you want to protect and acting to do so in accordance with American values will help you and perhaps help those things you care about most.

Right now, Trump has to show us that the faith put in him by those who elected him was justified. And he has to prove to the rest of us that he’s worth a damn. Because his election was not a mandate. The stats point towards apathy, to be honest. Both candidates got less votes than Romney and Obama. And she won the popular. Millions of people stayed home, rather than express themselves. So Trump has to prove himself. That he does in fact have discipline and he can do something positive, despite the general drek he tossed out throughout his campaign.

And in four years, we’ll have another decision to make. Until then, steady on.
