White Knights. I've always understood the meaning of the term to be someone who will jump in and side with a woman entirely based on her being female; something I agree is pretty pathetic in and of itself. Such a guy tends to "defend" females, even when said female is being unreasonable, or is demonstrably incorrect in the situation. Even more problematically (Read as; annoyingly), they will often box women out of conversations for the sake of vilifying the opposing person, using the opportunity to appear strong. That's fair enough.

But the term is also used as a general derogatory, like the ever-popular "cuck." I've seen it used to flame men who disagree with man-o-sphere talking points, or who side with women by coincidence.

In my actual life, I've twice come to the physical defense of a friend's girlfriend, and a friend of mine (The former got my ass kicked pretty decisively), entirely on the basis that they're my friends, and they were in altercations with sketchy people. I've never done so with the expectation of garnering respect, or for getting laid. It just seemed like the way to go since they're people in my life that I like. I'd do the same for a bro. Hell, I've had the term thrown at me in this very sub for calling out a clear personal attack on another poster.

So, what makes a man a White Knight, and is the term overused or abused? Are White Knights a genuine problem, drowning out genuine discussion and defending women who are by all rights jerkasses? Are White Knights benign victims of circumstance, or annoyances that are often blown out of proportion? Share your view.
