If you're working 60+ hours for someone else, you're a sucker. It might be worth putting that much effort into your own business, but never someone else's.

It comes back to boundaries--if someone asks for more than your standard 40-hour week, you tell them no. If you lose your job over it, good--now you have the opportunity to find a better job.

Um maybe you're dad's tired because he's old. Maybe he has to pee so much at night because his prostate sucks. You don't have to do everything your parents tell you to do. My mom wanted me to be a demure little princess but that didn't fucking happen. If you want to be that fun energetic guy then go do it. Lots of people derive happiness from pursuing the traditional route of the 9-5, stable corporate job, with decent money and benefits. For them, it probably seems like the only good option. But for some people, it feels like a ball and chain, preventing you from going out and doing what you really want to do. If you'd rather give up some of your money and stability in exchange for more freedom, there are plenty of different ways of doing that.

Slightly related. The last job I had was very physically intensive and had me up early in the morning and I got off at 5. I would come home and instantly take a nap for half an hour. This infuriated my girlfriend who hated seeing me asleep. She just couldn't stand to see me crumpled up after a hard day of work.

The problem is, that the average Chad, far from what TRP will have you believe about this badass rich guy, who is also handsome and muscular, is a douchey guy who lifts a bit, is quite fun but not really the long term guy.

Chad's main appeal is novelty factor, he fucks your wife and few times and then he's down the pub watching football and shooting some pool with his bros.

For most guys it's making the choice between a wife, a couple of kids and a retirement or some flings, some wild seeds sewn and dying alone in a council flat infront of the TV with your microwave meal.

For someone who really is the life of the party, the party is wherever they are. That aspect of being an alpha isn't really about having an overactive frat boy's social life, even though maintaining some kind of social activity is important. It's more about having a personality that keeps people around you in high spirits while allowing you some leverage over situations in case of trouble.

Consider a drill sergeant -- a good one and not just some roid rage asshole with a brown round on their head. Here's a personality character that involves getting in recruits' faces, chewing them new assholes, and pushing their boundaries through raw, overbearing masculine superiority.

Yet a good drill sergeant is also one of the funniest, most intelligent, most personable people you will ever meet in your life.

Whether you're a wage slave regards your economic tier; not your sum SMV. If you're a wage slave, then you probably shouldn't try to date a cardiologist.

That's a personal anecdote. My primary care physician once noticed a pattern that my blood pressure and heart rate were scary-low, so the VA made me wear a holter for 24 hours. The cardiologist (knockout 8/10, and a solid 10 if you count her profession) was feeling me up and blushing while explaining that my resting heart rate and blood pressure only reflected that I was in great shape.

I could have gone for that hookup. Oh, I wanted to. But then I stopped and thought, "Where would this lead?" At that time in my life, she was caviar and I was McDonalds.

You have to be aware of limitations like that. But you don't have to let them dictate anything else about you. My father used to tell me the best advice where this is concerned: Carry yourself higher than you really are, but keep your feet on the ground.

As for making time, you should always have one day off a week. Make the most of the night before that day. If you don't have that one day off per week, then power through that chapter of your life but don't let it go on indefinitely. As for finding the energy, keep fit and talk to your doctor about it. If you can't handle dating and working, then trying to be a father while working will break you.

Not everyone gets satisfaction from the same things. Some people really do enjoy working their fingers to the bone, but others prefer to establish a better work life balance, and if you're not like your father you don't need to follow in his footsteps. There are plenty of jobs out there that won't be as demanding of your time as your father's, especially if you're not too ambitious and don't mind not being at the top of the career ladder. Lots of public sector work has decent job hours and good benefits, and if you can even choose to work flexible hours or 25/30 hours a week once you're established and are earning enough that you can support yourself on that much. Just decide what you want to do, whether it's getting a cushy government admin job with very little out of hours commitment or working in a field that you enjoy enough that it doesn't feel as much like work, work out the steps you need to get there and then break those steps into little manageable tasks that you can work through and get satisfaction from completing.

As for the energy levels, diet and exercise make a massive difference to that. My partner is in his early 40s and works similar hours to your father and had enough energy to party it up before he settled down, and still has enough energy that we can spend time together when he's done with work now.

On a side note relating to your concern over your father's health, I get why you're worried, but while it's always good to get regular check ups benign prostate enlargement isn't uncommon in middle aged men and is a more likely cause than diabetes, and that can be helped with medical intervention and diet, so don't let your worry about your father's health get too out of hand.

Ok, I'm obviously not a man, but I'm going to answer this as a woman who has a busy schedule. For reference, I'm currently working on a business plan, trying to plan a wedding, running my own freelance business, and working a part-time physical labor job that requires me to get up at 4:30am. I also have to look after my house and make sure my partner and I get fed. Trust me, I know what tired is!

It helps to take good care of yourself, first of all.

You might not be able to sleep much, but try your absolute best to get in at least 6-8 hours. (If I'm being totally honest, I often fall short of the mark and hit, like 4).
Eat well. Make sure you're getting enough protein, get lots of fresh fruit and veg. Avoid sugar.
Drink lots of water.
Drink coffee in the morning and maybe again in the afternoon; it helps.
Exercise. It seems like that will make you more tired, and at first it will, but in the long run it'll really boost your energy.
Take naps! Worked your ass off all day and trying to go out at night? Nap for a little while, even 20 minutes helps.

It really just comes down to making time for what's important to you. Take care of your body, and you'll be able to do a lot more. Plus you won't feel like (as much) crap all the time, and that helps too.

I'm all about the Enjoy the decline mentality of getting an easy bullshit job (overnight janitor part time in my case), living a minimalistic life and focusing only on what makes you happy. Obviously some things cost money so you will have to manage to acquire some funds (two pronged approach of a side business. I give guitar lessons to supplement my income) but that's doable.

Any life that makes you tired and miserable is never worth it unless it's working towards some magnificent goal. Like if you're trying to start a business, write a novel or compose an album you're gonna need to put the hours in and fatigue is inevitable. That said, it's gotta be towards a worthwhile goal.

Just living a cog in the machine life is bullshit and too many people think that is just what must happen. Fuck them and fuck that. Whether you want to be a Chad slaying all the bitches or whether you just want to be fucking happy, this is not the way.

Not every guy is the life of the party. That doesn't mean he isn't successful, isn't happy, and isn't alpha. Fact is, there are highly successful people who are exhausted most of the time. See also: cardiac surgeons.

There are different ways to be alpha. You don't have to be a cocky know-it-all who bangs every chick. You can be quiet, steady, and confident. Think of a very skilled surgeon who doesn't yell or fuss but he can do fucking brain surgery. Aim for that. Aim for being self-actualized and self-aware.

Shit has changed since your dad's day bro. In an era of automation and billions of chinese peasants willing to sign away their lives for less money than i spend in a day, your goal shouldnt be to bust your hump and out-work the other guys. Any dirt poor uneducated Mexican can work his ass off.

Instead, make it your goal to think hard every day. Create startups, start projects, scheme on your business ideas, and get Machiavellian at the workplace - find ways to use your employer as a springboard to greater things, and take credit for others' work. Multiple revenue streams and passive income bro. If you can eventually invest into real estate, become a landlord and start parasitically feeding off of others, you're golden.

You'll always be low energy if you're doing something you hate, or just punching a clock every day to go generate money for someone else. Why the fuck would you be high energy? Nothing to be excited about there.

I think you've mentioned before that your dad has a blue collar job. Traditionally those types of jobs wear people down to the bone. It has less to do with being an adult and more to do with the type of job he has.

Also, some people have reserves of energy they can pull out for the occasion. I've been able to go out and party until the morning and still make it in for work with energy to spare.
