The only way to "escape the burden of performance" is to be dead. If you're alive, on some level, you ARE performing. Even if all the performance consists of is existing. It may be a piss poor performance, but it is one all the same.

I don't think it can be escaped but it sure as fuck can be used to your advantage.

Don't care about wealth? Live minimalistic and enjoy the things you want.

Don't care about certain social trends? Find a counter culture you lime and max out in it and reap the rewards.

Don't like lifting weights? Find a sport or a martial art you love and do that.

Perform to better yourself for yourself towards your own ends, with realistic expectations, and you will thrive.

Sure, a guy can GHOW and be relieved of the burden of performance. However, he then has to deal with soul-torturing loneliness, lack of intimacy, an inferior financial situation, reduced life expectancy, reproductive failure, and never being desired by a woman. If you're willing to put up with that, fine. Go play video games until you're 85. This term is only relative, and it only refers to heteronormative relationship dynamics.

Whats this bullshit that men only have to deal with the burden of performance? Every person who strives to do better or to make it in life or who isn't already born set with money has to perform. In any case I do think the pressure can be dangerous for some. I have a friend who I really admire who works 80-100 hours per week doing some kind of financial thing. Really devastatingly hard shit that puts a lot of pressure but she makes excellent money and looks forward to retiring at 40. I really admire her work ethic but I think its fucking dumb to literally work doing shit you hate for twenty years just so you can retire early but still miss your youth.

Same with family burden. So many parents do this unhealthy shit where they start to micromanage their kids life and basically select everything for them because they have this notion, "You owe me. I've given up everything for you." Its pretty damaging towards the kid but from the parent's point of view, you've clocked in endless hours at a job you hate to make sure your kid had the very best so shouldn't they repay you too?

People bitch about hwo Americans are lazy but based on my travels I think working Americans are way too fucking hardworking, to the point where it kills them, and anxious about failure.

"Performance" suggests some form of artifice, like you are pretending or acting. I don't see it that way, and I'm very happy with my station in life.

Instead of seeing it as a "burden" which has been thrust upon you, take a step back and realize that it is only a fair exchange: if you want comfort, companionship, support, money, and respect from other people, you must provide them with something in return.

There is an MLK Jr. quote which applies strongly:

Life's most persistent and urgent question is, "What are you doing for others?"

We achieve success when we surround ourselves with the right people, such that everyone can give what they have and get more in return. For example, I like driving and I enjoy getting to drive friends around, so I frequently offer rides to my best friends who don't drive. Giving a few friends a ride a few times a month is no big deal for me, but it makes a huge difference for that person when they don't have to worry about arranging a taxi or public transit to go to the vet or the airport.

If you feel pressured to perform, focus on what you are getting in return, and how you are creating value for other people. If you can add value to someone's life and trust them to add value back to yours, you will find a special kind of peace.

You don't have that burden. You TAKE on that burden. You want a family, a house, a job, money, children and many things more. No one is to blame for that, but you. You can leave it all behind if you really felt like it. You can be as hedonistic as you want. Or hell you can even commit suicide, 0 "burden" afterwards. However don't blame it on people or society. You either play or you don't. It is up to you.
