I am the wife of a disabled veteran. He's 60% disabled and still able to work, but was unemployed for 6 months after his medical discharge. I've taken care of him in various ways for 4 years now since the onset of his illness. He had more difficulty with feeling sexual than I did. I still felt attracted to him, but he didn't feel attractive when it was at its worst and when he was facing losing his military career.

I do wonder whether that sick/disabled guy kicks in the mothering (as opposed to sexual instincts), and that this may be a part of it. Also social stigm la for leaving such husbands is incredibly high, much higher than for "able bodied divorce".

However it is clear that in these rare cases something is happening outside of the predictions of RP sex strategy more generally.

I don't think I have ever seen an official thing, but there are tons of personal opinions.

I am sure it has to do with emotions. Trp covers attraction, sometimes people are together despite a lack of attraction, there are more factors and you have to take them all into account. When we purely look at such a situation from the attraction angle then it is an irrational decision to stay. Factor in more angles and it is less irrational or even logical. But at the end of the day humans often make irrational decisions and that's it.

I'm not sure why that necessarily has to change anything? If a man's disabled, he can still agree and amplify, tease her a bit, take charge when necessary, and do most of the other alpha stuff. It doesn't change his personality. While being disabled makes it harder to give her certain kinds of alpha, like lifting, he can still be her alpha. And it makes him a lot safer of an investment, too-- for women who won't look past his sick exterior to the alpha within.

Humans are emotional creatures more than rational, and woman being more so than men. Being more emotional, many woman allow sunk costs and loss aversion to influence their decisions. Similar to how irrational people would go to suffer through a movie they hate just because they already bought the ticket, woman will stick around their husbands because they have already invested fraction of their life in marrying them.
