/u/PemBayliss said something that struck me as odd in another thread:

If you don't want sex with him, you don't. You won't be having sex. You don't have to explain why. You just don't.

If I or my partner are ever in a situation where one of us does not feel up to some kinky sex, we both feel an obligation towards the other to communicate why. It hasn't come up yet, but either she or I would probe a bit and let it rest if it's a practical matter ("I still haven't recovered from that bug", "crunch time at work has taken it's toll" etc.) or have a deeper conversation another time if it's complicated. Neither of us views sex as this unionised work activity, where we can just whip out a card that ends all discussion. I trust that my partner wants to make me happy, be close to me; that if she is declining, circumstances are getting in the way of that. Relationships are a living thing that need nurturing, if closeness is met with trepidation we both take notice.

Do you find /u/PemBayliss' comment a representation of the norm? Do you consider a healthy relationship one where the matter should not be discussed further once either partner has declined an offer of intimacy?
