I'm 23 and I have a lot of trouble dealing with mood swings before my period. I work out 4-5x a week and I'm fit and I play the violin. I make myself a lot of healthy home cooked meals and I don't have any health problems. I'm not on birth control and never have been so that's not the issue. Despite having a generally healthy lifestyle I always get very anxious and depressed and start crying for no reason the week before I get my period. I try to control my thoughts but I feel like there's a cloud over me, even though I feel good for the rest of the month.

I know that to a man these kinds of mood swings would be a big turn off. Even my female housemate has noticed and she said that I get clingy and want more attention before I get my period. I know men don't like clingyness and emotional outbursts, and I want to get married and have kids. I also don't want to be a bad role model for my potential daughter(s) and show them that this kind of behaviour is okay. Have any of you found any helpful lifestyle tweaks to deal with mood swings? Or do you think that coping with mood swings/emotional outbursts comes down to cultivating self control?

My mom divorced my dad (nothing wrong with him at all) when I was 11 and she jumped from relationship to relationship. She had mental breakdowns whenever a relationship ended and that resulted in her neglecting being emotionally available for and cooking for my sister and me for months at a time. So I didn't really have a stable role model for how to cultivate healthy relationships. When I got to college I thought that it would be cool and fun to have sex so I lost my virginity to a stranger when I was 19 and 4 years later I've never had a boyfriend, just 15 random hookups. I have never connected with a man on an emotional level. So I feel like even if I can control my mood swings, I might be a lost cause for marriage and family. I know I've been a slut and I worry I'm used up. I wish I was a virgin but I know I can't take back what I've done. I worry about my sister too and I'm scared she might go down the same path as me but I hope she can learn from my mistakes. Sorry if I've broken any rules for posting!
