Good morning dear ladies!
I've been with my boyfriend for almost two years. He is 31 and I'm 29. He's a great and honest guy with an amazing character and I know that he loves me very much.
When we first started dating he was in the first semester of his engineering degree. This was - as I said - almost two years ago and it seems that it'll take another 1.5-2 years. He's studying full time because he saved a lot of money during his early twenties. He's studying a lot and I fully support it. But it limits our time greatly and he has to live very frugal for the time being.
But that's not everything. I moved to the town where he lived all his life and while it's awesome for getting to know a lot of people very easily it's sometimes very busy for him (me as well but not so much). He has a lot of friends here, is a firefighter, hunter, and plays in a kind of musical group (this may be the last year though). He has to attend birthdays and weddings and this party and that party,...
So this may seem that he has no time for me. It's not true, he always tries to make some for me, doesn't go to every birthday party and takes me with him whenever possible. But with his rich social life and school our "couple quality time" is a bit rare. He knows that the situation is not grat and I know that it'll get better in spring when he leaves the musical group and then in 2 years when he's got his degree. We try to make the best out of it and enjoy our time together but the last month was a bit extreme and I started feeling resentful and sad. I constantly whine in front of him how better it would be if we had more time and how happy I'll be when he has his degree. This stresses him of course and I don't want that. I support his degree and his hobbies, they are very important to him and make him happy.
I try to make the best of my alone time, I work out, cook, clean, meet friends and family and read a lot. But I fear that we grow apart when our quality time is so limited.
Good thing is, he started climbing again because of me so we have that. But he can't go every week.
What would you do in this situation?
tl;dr: SO has a rich social live and is studying. He is very busy and I miss quality time together. How do I now feel resentful about it and stop whining?

I think if this man has good qualities, you see future with him and you trust him, you should be a bit patient and see how this relationship progresses.
Before we started living together, me and my husband have been in long distance relationship for 3.5 years, lived on different continents (9h time difference) and saw each other only ONCE per year. I did that because I saw him as an ideal partner for me and I was willing to sacrifice that “together time” to be with him forever in the future. I think if you also see this man as a ideal partner, you could tell him you are struggling with so little time together but you will try to make best of it for the future.
HOWEVER if he seems to not be interested in committed, life long relationship with you then I would not do it. The reason why I agreed to relationship with my husband is because he was very focused on getting married and starting a family with me. If a man didn’t show such interest I wouldn’t sacrifice so many years for brief relationship.

Last summer I dated a girl who turned out to be a stage 9 clinger. When I realized that she needed constant attention, it colored every interaction we had. I began to realize that when she did things for me or even praised me, these actions were attempts to obtain attention in the future, and over and over again I would see this play out. Video phone calls I remember her pouting and complaining if I took a day to myself to take care of me. I told her about this (my mistake) and she never 'got it'.
So I dumped her, and felt great. The shadows vanished and again I could see daylight. It was a hard loss, though, because she had a great deal of highly attractive qualities. However everything she did and said because of her need for constant daily assurance became putrid. She was very good looking and has a perfect voice, but that does not make a relationship.
At least one of the mods doesn't like religion on here, but I recommend to try God. Nothing will help the hamstering like Him. Secondly learn to embrace the uncertainty and appreciate it. It lets him be the male, and opens the door to him surprising you.

From a guy,
A men will only put the amount of effort you require from him. Have a conversation about how you feel. If he does not listen the withhold sex and when he ask for it tell.him the way he feels is the way he is making you feel.
If he still does not learn you have to move on and end the relationship.
