I'm REALLY tired of this fucking bullshit "iT's sCiEnCe" or "iT's BiOLoGy" excuse. Either men are fucking logical, cold creatures or they're slaves to their animal instincts. Whichever is more convenient and lets them deflect blame (and hopefully shift it to women) work, right?

I’m not buying that men can’t hear our voices well. They just don’t care out of pure misogyny. It doesn’t make sense either. The most important voice to a male baby/child is their mother’s, so wouldn’t it be counterproductive if they didn’t register our voices effectively?

What is the actual evidence for this? If it was a cross-sectional study, then they can’t use it as a causal explanation. Sure, men’s brains may tune women out, but that doesnt mean that the biological drives the behaviour or that it is simply ‘too difficult’ physically for men to hear women. It could be the other way around, where this is just evidence of how the culturally learned habit of tuning women out and not listening to what they have to say actually goes so far as affecting men’s brains biologically.

It’s bad science to suggest that this is an innate biological quirk of men. To determine that, they would need to do the study in babies and to confirm, across the lifespan and I’m betting they didn’t do that. In addition, if it was ‘too difficult for men to hear women’ then you would expect it to be a function of the ear, which determines hearing and not the brain, which determines actually listening to what is said. I believe this research was based on brain scans and was not anything to do with men’s ears.

I’ve found this is very true at work. I often find myself talking with no one listening, or someone will accuse me of interrupting them when they’re actually the ones who interrupted me.
