I’m loving being childfree at 38. We’re on the road to retiring early in our late 40’s and will have plenty of time and money to devote to whatever we choose. I don’t imagine that is going to be my husband out playing golf (lmfao at golf, never a thing for him) and driving a new sportscar (also not his thing) and me sitting around crying by myself because we didn’t have kids.

I work under a woman in her 80’s who is childfree as well. Our work involves monitoring at risk species of birds through the year in our area. We walk a ton in our most active months, which I think helps her stay fit and healthy to have way more energy than most older people I know. She gives no shits about sportscars or golf. Instead, she gets out birdwatching weekly. She also volunteers with a conservation group. The most impressive to me is her competitive pickleball playing. In her 80’s! Hobbies aren’t exclusive to bachelor men. She’s sharp and bright and is one of my favorite people. I can’t imagine “unhappy” in any way describing her.

You don’t need kids to be happy. Most people just convince themselves they do because everyone else does it and anyone who chooses differently puts a dent in their “raising children is a woman’s most important role in life” armor. Many people in their 40s and 50s who have kids have shitty kids who don’t pay them any attention.

What makes that less depressing than someone who was able to avoid the expense and energy of raising kids only to have them treat you like shit when they are grown and don’t need you anymore?

my mom is only one of the other two women in her lifelong friend group who had kids and the others are very nice ladies who do a whole lot of stuff and seem to be good

Easier to protect your ego by saying you're opting out and hate relationships/children than admit that no one wants a relationship/children with you.

They're probably happy they didn't beat their bodies up pushing out a kid. Not all people without kids are simply unable to have one. I may be biased since I don't like children though. It just makes sense to not have kids if you think your money can be put elsewhere, and there are countless things that are worth better money than a human

Some people just don’t like kids I guess. I’m the opposite since I’m actively fighting for more custody. Being a dad to my one year old daughter is way more satisfying and fulfilling than any job I’ve ever worked.
