Obligatory "imagine if he tried to slap a female chef?"
That was elite handling, and she just went into a self-centred meltdown. The world owes you nothing, darling.

...straight to violence to "solve" the problem as well. Women might not be as strong as men, but they also don't grow up learning that picking a fight is a risky proposition that might not conclude with you on top
[–]1DRMMR7642 points43 points44 points 8 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link
Holy fuck this. As a cop I'd say women get violent at least twice as much as men. They think they're protected somehow, like they can do anything they want to anyone and by virtue of being a female, everyone is supposed to just tolerate their tantrums.
[–]SuperSlavisWife8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Think of it this way:
-When you were 5, how often did you hit girls your age?
-When you were 10, how often did you hit girls your age?
-When you were 15, how often did you hit girls your age?
I was surprised to find out in my late teens that most girls have never been punched in the face. Not in their whole lives. Part of it is that adults and boys don't actually like the idea of hitting a female. Part of it is that girls fight like girls. Part of it is that society punishes you disproportionately for breaking either of the previous norms.
Women are protected from real pain. And then they panic when a man hits them back or another woman escalates from their "socially acceptable" slap into a punch or a forearm smash.

Out at the bars a few weeks ago and one of the homie hoppers in that circle of friends caught an elbow to the (on accident) and was drunk crying to me how she'd never been hit in the face.
She was 23 years old, first words out of my mouth was "how?"
[–]SuperSlavisWife1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Apparently very easily. As a teenager I didn't think much of it other than "wow" and "now I really want to punch all of you", but the more I think about it, the more surprising it is.
I understand "rarely hit". I have "rarely" been hit in the face. Couple of times by a football, once by a basketball (which I will never forget), couple of semi-serious fights, lots of scrapping as a young kid (5-10 in rural places = you will gladiator-fight for fun), maybe a few I'm forgetting. But never? That just sounds insane.

A friend of mine (a girl) went for her very first kickbox training and when she got direct for the VERY first time in her life to her face ... she just stood there unable to understand that the pain is real, she had this idea from movies where everybody just shakes a little bit after a hit and goes on with the fight ...
[–]SuperSlavisWife2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I can understand the shock, to be honest. Putting it stupidly: pain hurts. And pain hurts even more when you can't properly prepare yourself for it. So many western girls just haven't experienced any blunt trauma pain, at least not with any intensity. On the other hand, cutting fingers down to the bone, deep menstrual pain and burns may hurt, in terms of intensity, as much as a middling punch. But I think every flavour of pain needs to be learned differently.

That's one of the reasons I question the domestic violence thing. Cause most of the guy i know wouldn't dream of hitting a girl. But a girl if she feels offended for any stupid reason her had gets itchy. Like do they know what it would take for one man to slap another one? But also when a man crosses that line he knows what to expect.
[–]SuperSlavisWife0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't question it as much. I just think it's vastly misunderstood. Generally it's a one-off thing or ongoing from both sides in equal proportion. Some men will slap back in self defense or pin a woman down to intimidate her. Many "domestic abusers" are also being abused in retaliation (or are the retaliators) and not hitting the woman with 1/8th of the strength they have. In the more misguided cases, they probably feel like they're being quite tame. But when a woman is hit by a man's full force she either runs for the hills or becomes the rare "textbook example".
However none of that changes the fact that a number of people in relationships hit each other. It does, however, make a lot of difference to the way the law treats DV situations.

I'd love an anecdote if you've got one handy.

Well one in particular from a few weeks ago comes to mind. The back story is a college aged male and some of his buddies were at a local bar. His recent ex and her friends also came to the same bar. She sees him dancing with another girl and assaults him in the bar. The bouncers called us and kicked them out. When we arrive both groups are standing in front of the bar, the girl (I'd say about a 7, 5'3", pretty slim but an OK face) was standing close to the guy screaming at him while he stood there with his arms crossed, yelling back. His two buddies were in the process of pulling him away while her three girl friends were just standing there watching. As we pulled up we see her start slapping him and trying to kick his shins. My partner gets to her first, grabs one of her arms and she wheels around and slaps him across his face as hard as she can, knocking his eye-pro off. I grab her other arm and we pull her to the ground. She's thrashing around as we get the cuffs on her while more units arrive.
The guy gets handcuffed as well since we don't yet know everything that happened. But he just goes along with it and sits on the curb talking to another officer while other officers are pulling the friends away. A senior Field Training officer and a female rookie show up, and since it's policy to have females search females when possible, and the rook needs to get more experience, her FTO has her do the search while he restrains her. My partner and I are at an ambulance while the EMTs are sanitizing the scratches on his face from her fake nails. The subject female starts fighting the female rookie, trying to mule kick her and scrape her shins with her heels. The senior FTO officer tried to pull her away from the rookie and she spits in his face. They get her to the ground...again. Another officer goes to the trunk of his car and gets the leg shackles and spit shield and they work them onto the subject female, still trying to scream and thrash around.
The rest of the call was pretty uneventful. The ex boyfriend got released after the bouncers showed us a surveillance camera clip showing her slap the shit out of him on the dance floor. He very wisely kept his arms crossed the entire fucking time. In a perfect world, he should have every right to defend himself against violence, but we all know how that would play out for him with a prosecutor.
One of the best parts of being a cop is having a good health care plan. One of the worst parts is how often you use it.

Curiously, you didn't mention if she was charged with hitting a police officer. Was she given a pass because she's female?

It is quite literally because they've never been punched in the nose. Every bit encounters this sometime growing up, and when they bit off more then they can chew. It actually incenses me that women take a man's sensible reluctance to enter into avoidable physical conflict as weakness. Bitch, you won't be the one in the hospital. Just so they can get off on the power and violence from a nice safe distance
[–]AlphaAccountant2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Small dog syndrome. Little shit dogs are more aggressive because they aren't reprimanded as harshly as big aka potentially dangerous dogs are. Thus they develop this irrational sense of being able to defend themselves and become aggressive a lot easier and faster.

This is the way to actually break it down. Raw reality, plain and simple. Go sir.
[–]moose_war1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That elite handling is what being grounded means. If anyone here is wondering what it means to hold frame, stay emotionally grounded Ramsay shows it here. He neutralizes her attack but will not retaliate. He tells her not to be stupid. He makes her feel stupid while remaining calm. See what happens? She has nowhere to go. He just stands there. She knows he won't play her game so she just starts playing the "poor me" game.
THAT is what women want. A guy who is strong but won't lash out unless absolutely necessary.

Gordon "Ice Man" Ramsay
"IT'S A TV SHOW, PEOPLE!!"
I find myself having to say this to my wife and daughters when they seem to start taking a TV show too seriously. And I'm saying it to you guys right now too.
I've never watched Ramsey (I don't watch much TV actually) so I have no idea if this background info on him is true or not. But don't take anything you see on TV too seriously.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago [recovered] (0 children) | Copy Link
A lot of what they show is manufactured. If you look at the British run of Kitchen Nightmares there's some conflict and whatnot, but not too much. The US run is all about fake reality TV drama. Hell's Kitchen is more of the same.

I've found a lot of people know how to hold frame when they are in their turf, but are like ducks out of water out of it. Like the sport player that is the fucking man when training and out with his friends, handling people left and right, but you put him in a situation outside of what he is used to and he starts behaving like a child.

I love when women have a chip on their shoulder and act like total psychos, while demanding chivalry in return from all men.

Ramsey can and does get away with acting like this become of his insane SMV in the food industry. Some average how chef trying this shit... Yeah right.
Same goes in other settings. You gota have the SMV to pull off brash behaviour.
[–]Rhunta7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link
I dont think it is because of his smv. But just because of the value he brings to the industry.
[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Jack Donovan describes the tenets of Masculinity as Strength, Courage, Mastery and Honour in his book "The Way of Men".
Whilst not as focused specifically on gender dynamics he illustrates the link that women want men, who men want to be; and men are defined by the above 4 things.
Gordon is often clearly demonstrating competence on all 4 of these areas and so is largely seen as "highly masculine".
Women love masculine men, so do men.
SMV can really be thought of as social market value.
Gordan Ramsay oozes social market value.
[–]1DRMMR766 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
It's too bad so many on TRP ignore that last one.
[–]1User-31f64a4e3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
You are thinking game is dishonorable? I am not sure I agree.
[–]1DRMMR7615 points16 points17 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That's not what I said.
Consider this. We can discuss the tactics, methodology, tools, and means to kill someone all day. We can talk about guns vs. edged weapons, what caliber is best, terminal ballistics, shot placement, etc. The discussion and knowledge itself is amoral, neither good or bad. But how and when you use it makes all the difference. You can be a murderer or a man defending his home. A terrorist or a soldier. The knowledge on how to take a human life has no morality. But the act of doing so, why, and to whom most certainly does.
Game is the knowledge. TRP is amoral. Your actions are not.
[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think he meant that we ignore how Gordon Ramsay oozes social marketplace value.
[+]Rhunta-9 points-8 points-7 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Than you should type it out. Cause at this sub smv means sexual market value.

[–]2rp_valiant1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
lol, you realise /u/Modified_Hackware is TRP endorsed right? He knows what SMV stands for. You might want to re-read his comment.

Ramsay was always that dude. He didn't take shit from anyone, ran his kitchen like a hardass. He knows how to flirt and a lot of the women would flirt back even though the dude has a face like a rock. At the same time, he commands respect and never took shit from anyone, man or woman.
[–]ripper_tornado1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I can't criticize the first woman very harshly. These reality shows are deliberately designed to physically and emotionally exhaust the participants, to make more opportunities for scenes like this one.
Listen to Penn Jillette talk about his "ego exhaustion" during his experience on The Apprentice
Thanks man, I'll check it out.
-- these people should expect some drama-- a TV show is being brought into their lives. TV = drama. They could have prepared themselves... Perhaps some meditation, tai chi? :P
"Will you escort these two lady's back to plastic surgery please" ha I just about died when I heard that. Gordon ramsey has been discussed here before. Very good RP/alpha example.
[–]TeasingPenguin1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
He has balls, my favourite is in the bimbo video where the woman says
Blonde:"You hurt my friends feelings" (typical feelings) Gordon: Oh did I? Blonde: Yeah Gordon: Can you tell her I meant it
@ 55 secs
[–]StoneTiger400 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The thing I loved is at the end of the Bimbo video. After he makes the remark about escorting the bimbos back to plastic surgery, what is their reaction? They smile and laugh.
They see him as high SMV. So, they take his insults and laugh and giggle. A low SMV man? They would have been on him in a second belittling him.
A textbook scenario of how high SMV works.

What is she like 50? I don't know if I have EVER met a woman in my entire life. I have hardly ever even see one. Karen Straughan comes to mind, but of course, she's probably just a robot.
It seems like the word woman itself is pointless to use.
