An online dating profile is a lot like posting a resume on Indeed, or LinkedIn, or Monster.com: you want to get the attention of potential employers so you can get hired. I trust the analogy is clear.

First of all, she's making the same mistake a lot of our Carols make in that she's writing like the employer rather than the job seeker. If I go on a job-seeker site and just list off my salary and benefit requirements with no indication of what I can do for the company that would make them choose me over every other candidate, then OF COURSE I'm not going to get any favorable responses. If I compound the error by showcasing all the things I can't/won't do and include a list of special considerations I'll need, I won't get any responses at all. If I further compound the error by slamming all those companies that won't "Company Up" and offer me the corner office, I may get replies but they'll be hiring managers writing to call me an idiot.

Once again we have a Carol whose solution is obvious, and once again it requires a time machine. Since she doesn't have one, she might take a look at her dating resume. She admits that she's not getting offers, and when she initiates contact she isn't getting responses. Those are two distinct problems, and a good place to start would be to rewrite her profile to showcase what (if any) value she brings, and how she plans to keep her problems from becoming your problems if you call her in for an interview. The second part of the problem is that she's applying for positions for which she does not qualify, since those positions require things like youth, beauty, childlessness, and sophistication. She might have more luck if he applied for positions with much lower requirements, but that would entail signing on with a company that lacks the flashy logo to which she feels entitled: she might join to cover her bills for a while, but she'll be a lousy worker and will probably quit as soon as she's vested enough to get a severance package (like she did at her last job).

Of course she has the option of increasing her value to increase her odds of getting a callback from a decent company. In the dating game that means losing a lot of weight; ditching the bitchy, entitled attitude; sorting out her own affairs rather than demanding you do it for her, sending her son to live with his father, and stop cutting her with a weed whacker... for starters.

This chick doesn't realize that she's not in the driver's seat any more. She may have been when she was younger and had less baggage, and she certainly was when she was married and had the law on her side when it came to making her husband snap-to, but neither of those things matter now that she's back in the dating world in her current condition. The guys she wants don't have to kiss her @$$... nor do they want to. She's 39 (at least), fat, divorced, encumbered with a child, busy, needy, boring, and entitled, and she still expects that attractive men will pursue her if she simply sits back and signals that she's ready for them to do so.

If she is over 30 and has any combination of children, debt, or high n-count, she has to chase me, because to her I am now the Prize, not her. I work with a large amount of mid-thirties career driven women who echo this lady's experience. Lightheartedly I'll say something like "ahhh so you've discovered what it's like for all guys in the dating world", nothing harsh at all. But I'll be met with "guys are just cowards in this day and age" or "why can't you be more sympathetic to meeeee"... no sense of realisation or accountability, just blame men for all their shortcomings in life...

The kicker is that they've been at my company 3+ years longer than me, yet I've moved up to a leadership position in the team due to hard work and improving the previous shortcomings of the team. And there's growing resentment because I'm 6 years their junior. I've heard off-hand remarks that I've moved up because of my privilege and the patriarchy (I work in a company which embraces identity politics)... yet my manager who promoted me is the most anti PC lady I've met.
