It is of outmost importance for any man to let go of these types of people. I often did not see the reality that some people are simply jealous (crabs in a bucket) and that they are too lazy to want to improve.

I let go of a "friend" recently that only seemed to belittle my accomplishments, whatever they were. We used to play professional sports together and I improved greatly in a two year frame when we didn't see each other. The first thing he told me after seeing me again was that I could never change who I really was "inside" instead of congratulating me on my improvements (like any man would).

He used his negativity for everything.

I got into great shape by lifting and eating clean. He passively-aggressively responded that he doesn't see the point of not enjoying your food and that bodybuilders are actually weak. Then, I got a job and he never congratulated me.

Its a common thing for people to be negative about others attempts to self-improvement. Don't let that stuff hold you back!

I have a friend who is not the kind of person you described and who started to run and goes to the gym to be in better shape etc. but he stays pretty negative about basically everything else, not taking responsibility and whining constantly.

Needless to say I don't see him often anymore because he is a downer and useless weight to carry around.

I went through a very similar experience myself about a year ago. I just graduated from CC after re-enrolling at 23 after a failed stint at college when I was 18.

I worked in restaurants and doing trade labor odd jobs for a while but would take a class or two a semester because I knew I always wanted to get a degree in something. Just had no idea what to study and I could just pay for my gen eds out of pocket this way.

I graduated CC and was accepted to a prestigious top tier school for my major with scholarships and grants. I didnt even expect to get in, just applied to give it a shot.

My "friends" all responded with similar jealousy bullshit. Calling me "rich" in a derogatory way (for the record I am not rich). Saying id just go into a ton of debt for a "useless degree", saying im too good for (insert hometown name) etc.. At first I was kind of sad. I loved those guys and only wanted the best for them. I always encouraged them to go back to school despite dropping out like I did. I planned trips with these guys and bought them presents on christmas.

Then I realized something. For most of my life prior to TRP, I was just a huge loser. My friends were huge losers too and our friendship dynamic was like this blue pill echo chamber of failure. All we did was drink alcohol on the weekends and talk about a girls ass at the bar without approaching. We all just "talked" about doing cool shit with out ever doing it.

The real cutting point was this summer when I came home. My best friend was similar to your boy.. just negative as shit about everything. We went to a local open mic where our friend who isnt the greatest guitar player.. but shes passionate and keeps at it. This dude, another eternal virgin just rips her apart with his criticism.. not even constructively more just trying to tear her down. He also had a crush on my girlfriend a few years ago which gave him incentive to shit talk me to her.

Another friend of mine whos a thirsty af beta is a chronic flake. Also a shit talker if pussys on the table. He ran his mouth about me to his girlfriend because shes obviously attracted to me. I would never try to steal my friend's girl and would tell them whats up if she made an advance. I have told this dude in the past when I saw his girlfriend kissing another dude at our CC campus. Anyway, I got pissed cause he flaked on me like 3 times in a row when we were gonna hang. Eventually I realized hes just a selfish person with no respect for his friends' time.

Fuck these people. Im so glad I made the decision to go back to college and pursue my career goals. It literally feels like coming out of Plato's cave and seeing reality for what it is. How most of my life I was doped up on blue pills staring at the flicker of shadows on the cave wall in shackles.

I know what you mean, personally know many negative people who refuse to improve themselves at all.

I'm 22. For the last few years my main occupations have been uni (arts/law degree), work (part-time delivering pizzas, doesn't pay that badly) and writing (had a few paid articles, trying to get a novel published) plus other assorted hobbies.

I admire people who are keeping themselves busy - I'd say its the simplest way to judge their character. Some people are just hopeless.

Of the four drivers in my store at the moment, two of them, its their only occupation. They come in and deliver pizzas 15-20 hours a week, then go home, that's it. They're 23 and 26 years old.

The other guy is like me, 20 years old, doing engineering at uni, and also does tutoring on the side.

Everyone has different circumstances but overwhelmingly I am not impressed with people who merely work part-time rather than trying for a full-time job. To a lesser extent, the same goes for people at uni that don't work as well. You should usually have time to do both.

I'd try and associate with people (just talking teens/20s here) who have the basics covered:

studying/working full time
real hobbies (writing, instrument, etc not just Netflix)
physical fitness
try and socialize regularly

Otherwise, you're unlikely to get much value out of a friendship.

I know you're trying to follow TRP, but there are better ways to show others to a better lifestyle without being cruel towards them. If somebody refuses to take help, you should just cut them out. You shouldn't purposefully be mean in order to prove a point. As a Red Piller for a while now, it doesn't directly connect to looking down on your fellow man. It's about working together to a better future for yourself. Anyone who doesn't want to be a part of that is fine, no need to ridicule, at that point you just look like an arrogant asshole.

I think it would be a rarity where someone doesn't discover that they have toxic friends after discovering TRP.

Personally, I was brought up in a very negative environment and my father was the same kind of person as your friend. Just completely toxic. Constantly whining and complaining about how tough he has it, putting other people down, criticising everything I would do in some way.

It's very hard to know what I should do. Intuitively I should cut him out of my life but he's paying for my rent while I'm in college and regardless of what he's like he's still my dad.

Also, while being extremely jaded and cynical, he gives a lot of good life advice.

Funny because I was like your friend at some point. I wasn't an asshole like that but I secretly hated my best friend when he was living a much better life than I was. A couple of years ago I meet up with him after a long hiatus. His life was in the gutter. He was fat and looked like a mess. For some reason I liked being with him at that time. It made me feel good about myself. I wasn't where I wanted to be at that time as well. I was struggling with all areas of my life. It made me feel better that my friend was worse than me. After hanging out with him every week things started happened. He started to turn his life around. He got in shape and slowly built his life. He got laid countless times while I was still a virgin. I was happy for him but a rush of envy and resentment overcame me. I was the negative one bitching and complaining. I wanted him to fail but he never did. He got better and left me in the dust. Long story short, I stopped seeing him. I decided it wasn't good for my mental health and the jealousy was killing me. Now I'm on my path of self improvement. Im still not where I want to be but I'll get there someday. I have no right to be mad at my friend. I haven't seen him in years. Once I fix myself then I'll see him and explain everything to him.

I too had a friend like this. The only difference is, I didn't tell anyone that I was on my mission to bettering myself. This ex friend of mine was the most negative, whiny, and fat bitch I had ever been friends with. Honestly, I was friends with him because I felt bad for him; he didn't have anybody else. One day, a girl shows up in his life and gives him his first piece of ass. He dropped everything to be with her, not realizing she was controlling and emasculating the fuck out of him. 2 months later, he unintentionally impregnates her and says he's keeping it. She would trash talk him in front of me until I had had enough and gave him the talk. I told him to be a man and stand up to her. He refused and said that he loved this bitch. She was even making him get rid of his pets so she could bring her own pets into his house, needless to say he was okay with that and asked me to care for his reptiles. Obviously, I declined and dropped him like the bad habit he is about 5 months ago. Four days ago, he married her and the baby hasn't even been born yet. It only makes me thank the TRP for supplying the knowledge to be confident in myself and not trap myself in those situations.
