Kirsty Katzmann is a 41 year old divorcee and former The Bachelor contestant who works for a health and wellness startup. She's from the Chicago suburbs. She was on The Bachelor in 2007. She was married for 6 months in 2015. She agreed to do Labor of Love because her "friend, mentor and guide" Debbie told her about the casting call. ("Debbie" is Debra Taitel, who operates a facebook page called "Clairvoyant Readings by Debra", an "Alternative and Holistic Health Service".) She froze her eggs to prepare for the show.

First of all, Ms. Katzmann is going to need a lot of luck to make this happen. She's 41 and even with the best medical technology, her carrying one nondefective child to term and live birth is next to impossible.

Second, what to say about Katzmann herself?

--very physically attractive, yet had no success in dating and has a short lived marriage. She's either too busy for a relationship, too bitchy, or too crazy. Lacks the ability and/or character to forge and sustain a long term relationship. She either picks shitty men, or high value men avoid her.

If a woman who looks like this couldn't attract and keep a man of sufficient value, something is very, very wrong with her.

--kind of a weirdo. Her "mentor and guide" is a crackpot psychic.

--she's a veteran of reality TV. Which means she's trying to get famous, break into acting or modeling, something like that.

--she's looking for a sperm donor, not a husband or father. The "lucky" guy won't even get to have the fun of knocking her up the old fashioned way. No, the ultimate "winner" will jack off into a plastic cup and the semen used to fertilize her thawed out desiccated eggs. The zygotes will be "transferred" into her uterus, while she hopes to hell one of them "takes" or implants. The odds of that happening are probably single digits: For women over 42, in vitro fertilization has a 4% success rate. Which means a 96% failure rate.

--She is extremely physically attractive for her age. Easily more attractive than most women in their 30s. Easily top 5% in her age cohort. She is also in very good physical shape. She's at a healthy weight. These things work in her favor.

At the end of the day, we have here a hippy dippy weirdo who relies on the advice of a psychic for major life decisions; is 41 and still has the pipe dream of becoming a mother; is doing this for fame, fortune, notoriety, and self aggrandizement; and wants only a man's genetic material, not the man himself.

This is 2020 America, folks. It's not enough to go to a sperm bank and pick out some decent jizz they've got there. Now you have to do it in public. Not to mention the lantern jawed, rippling men who themselves are looking for money and notoriety and who are lowering themselves to generators of genetic material. Most if not all of these men will go on to other reality shows or perhaps get scouted by modeling agencies, and if they're luck, get short lived modeling contracts.

Screaming at you. edit: Article is really iffy on the wording for their leading line and just says "no success" with no other context aside from her age; she says she got out of a relationship a year ago. So it's only been a year of attempts I assume? Maybe she just wanted to be reality TV famous? So she's had success, it's just that such success wasn't good enough, or yet another guy didn't want to put up with her. Something is off here.

These guys are not here because they want to get her pregnant, they're here to get on TV. Just look at all the dudes: they quite clearly could be pounding women half her age by the dozen every week.

A realization made way too late. Women who want to have a family should be taking that goal seriously by starting in their 20s. In the event she does get pregnant (slim chances indeed), a child born under these circumstances is going to have a bad time. At least in the shows the Bachelor/Bachelorette the typical short lifespan of the relationship after the show only results in a breakup, but here? In the likely event that the "winner" will not have a long and fruitful relationship with this woman, a child would have a very poor upbringing.

I am not just speaking about the first woman contestant, but any other women who would be a part of this show. It is endorsing a bad practice in bringing children into this world. If any parent loves their children, they will make sure that they grow up in a household with both a mother and a father. I know that this show is not the start of the trend, but it does demonstrate societies acceptance for this abominable idea.

All other crazy things about this aside, don’t they know that pregnancy at 40 is high risk? I hope they address this and have some real medical expert explain this to the showrunners. Pregnancy past 35, hell even 30 has risks associated with it. At 41 theres a larger chance for a still birth, or birth defects, ectopic pregnancy, and shit like post-partum hemorrhage. Whoever greenlit this show is really optimistic, because theres a good chance that this show will end with some tragedy.
