Before the quarantine I met a guy through a dating site. Due to my life situation I wasn’t planning to meet him anytime soon anyway but it was nice to have a guy to flirt and chat with. He took it way too seriously and decided to tell me via text that he wants to take a step back and be platonic. Originally I was okay with this, being a recovering pickmeisha and all... but then slept on it and texted him:

“Hi. I slept on what we talked about last night.

I don’t know how sincere you were about the whole friend thing or if it was just a way to let me down easy.

What I do know is we talked about when we are having serious conversations I would prefer to do so over the phone. I really feel like someone who truly considers me a friend and someone they care about would give me at least that level of respect. I did it again where I ignore myself to accommodate others, and I know I need to be honest with myself in what I expect from people I want to devote my time to.

I call my friends when I want without texting them first, and I give them the time of day, especially when it’s concerning our friendship. This is merely a difference in communication between you and I. I just expect more from my friends— and frankly I expect way more from them than any potential romantic partner.

Because of this, I don’t think we can be friends.”

I hope one day I can block without word or remorse, but this is definitely a start and I’m glad I shut the door completely as I’m not in the mood to be anyone’s therapist or booty call. 🤷🏻‍♀️
