I’ll never understand how women will justify going out with trashmen for “free drinks and food “

It’s not free. You’re literally paying with your time, energy and self respect.

What is the point of a free margarita if you have to sit there and listen to some dude who rejected you blab on about the girl he likes?

Either use that time to get free drinks from someone new and exciting or spend your hard earned money getting wasted with your REAL friends and have a hell of a night.

I don’t feel good about pursuing friendship with a guy I have feelings for and being treated as second option so I don’t know what to do

Newbies need to stop using the FDS rule of men paying for dates, as a "get out of jail free" card for everything else. It just comes off as being deliberately obtuse.

Not sure why you are wasting your time-- entertaining him, seeing him, talking to him, and then asking this on FDS? You know what we are going to tell you. We're going to tell you, have better standards, stop lying to yourself, take a break from dating and "guy friends", level up, go to therapy if necessary.

These guys are not your friends and are not trying to be.

If you were stranded on the side of the road and needed your tire changed or a lift, your "friend" would not be there.

If you needed help moving this weekend, your "friend" would ghost you until Monday.

These are not people that will celebrate your accomplishments nor will they genuinely comfort you when you grieve (and by comfort, I dont mean a dick appointment).

These dudes aren't trying to be your friend. I promise.

PS. 99% of these friend zoned guys will continue to pursue you covertly during these meetups with you. Even if you’ve communicated that you want to keep things platonic. It’s disgusting. You should be spending that time on yourself or with a different man who you are ACTUALLY interested in.

Sometimes guys hope you would get the hint and hope you would refuse that kind of arrangement so he doesn't feel like a jerk. They don't want to be blunt about their lack of interest, so they pick a fight , ask to be friends, tell you "you deserve better" etc.

In other cases, he could be keeping you as an option for when his first option doesn't work.

Just tell him, "I appreciate your invitations but I'm focused and looking for other things right now. Thank you."

Your time is precious. Invest it in yourself or in people who value you higher than last minute plans.

If things were so great with his girlfriend, he would not seek out your company. Maybe he is seeing you for an ego boost, maybe he is seeing you because she is not an intellectual match or she doesn’t fulfill his emotional needs. But.....he still makes her a priority. Find someone who makes YOU the priority.
