In my late teens and early 20s, I remember I used to review a lot on Yelp, purely because I like to write and scratch the backs (so to speak) of local, independent businesses I enjoy. Totally innocuous and just a nice way to kill time (basically recommending businesses I liked via reviews). I ended up getting an Elite badge offer from the site (which is a total scam, by the way, but that's a story for another time). But having the badge required you to have a real profile picture of yourself, so I uploaded one accordingly. That's when everything went to shit. Suddenly, there was an influx of creeps constantly messaging me and hitting on me. They were also usually significantly older than me, like 15+ years. So gross and totally killed the experience. I've since stopped reviewing.

In any case, I'm glad you set this scrote straight. I wish I had back then. So ridiculous that men do this!

I had a guy come across my social media profile, look me up on LinkedIn and find my Whatsapp number and then send me a 4 paragraph message talking about himself and about how he’s in a complicated long distance marriage and blah blah. Like what the fuck actually. My friends thought it was hilarious because he never actually stated his purpose like “I’d love to meet/date/etc” but clearly he’s got whatever weird shit on my mind and I hate that he thought I would care enough to respond.

There are also scam artists on LinkedIn. Recently reported a guy that hit on me via that platform. Noticed straight away that his grammar was off and that he probably stole his profile pic from a website of a local entrepreneur. Always do a google image search for the profile picture if you smell a rat.
