I'm curious to get peoples take on this. I've only been on 4 dates, as the title suggests, with a guy I met at school. This past Saturday over dinner he brought up the idea of us going away on a mini-vacation after our finals. He initially proposed traveling over the summer but then started talking about sooner rather than later. When he asked I kind of hedged around a direct answer. Throughout the night he brought it up several times and said he was going to convince me to say yes.
This was on Saturday and since then he's mentioned it twice through text. To be honest I'm pretty much decided on saying no. I don't feel that I know him well enough to go away with him on my own for any period of time.
How would some of you respond if asked this? Would any of you have said yes to the invitation?

Thanks I feel reassured. We have gone out on a couple of dates, mostly to dinner but it still feels too soon.

If she wanted to go she would be happy and excited. As she is anything but, he needs to back off. She decides the pace, not him.

it's nice of him tho, he asked not said a day before that "oo we are going on a trip" but if you want it's your choice. if you feel like going go, but of not then say so and go some other time.

He's trying to finesse some sex.

Someone stop her before she ends up in a ditch in the woods.

Oh my god one of my male acquaintances was like “this sounds sex traffic-y” when I mentioned that he wanted to travel with me.
[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Trust your gut. You wouldn’t be asking this question if you were excited about it.
There is a good reason that you’re not.

If you want to ask for separate rooms see what he says, but know that this is 100% to get you to fuck him.

Never ever ever go away alone with a man you hardly know. I did that once (3 weeks dating, the very first guy I ever dated). He took me on a road rage spree in my own car, physically threatened me, terrorized me, dumped me when we got to our location and then lost his shit and started threatening me when I wouldn't drive him home. He spent three weeks threatening to kill me after. When I tried to get help from the cops they told me "come back when he rapes or murders you". This literally sounds fake it's so insane. Not saying yours might turn out as bad as this but it could easily be half as bad and it could easily turn into rape or assault.
oh I forgot the part where somebody else assaulted him (a female friend of 10 years bizarrely) because of the way he was acting and then he went to security and told them about it and then two giant men tried to attack me in the middle of the night when I was trying to leave. One of them lunged at my face as my car window was closing.
Edit: you're a virgin? Absolutely do not go away with someone you hardly know where you'll be in a position with immense pressure to give in. I would never consider having sex without months of commitment and in your own place without alcohol and certainly without being alone somewhere with a man when he has so much more control.

If he is asking about it multiple times through a night that should be a clear indication that he is in valuation seeking mode and is seeing your relationship with him as a means to get sex instead of developing a fulfilling partnership. Sure he might not have moved on from you after 4 dates without sex, maybe he is a prince sometimes but this to me proves he is still a low value male. Move on

I'd say, "Sure I'd love to go! But I will not fuck you under any circumstances. Nor get naked with you. And you better not even try. Sound good? "
[–]turquoisebluesFDS Apprentice12 points13 points14 points (0 children) | Copy Link
He’ll just take that as a challenge.
[–]rftw2013Ruthless Strategist3 points4 points5 points (3 children) | Copy Link
Easy. Tell him you'll be needing your own room. Problem solved.
[–]turquoisebluesFDS Apprentice12 points13 points14 points (1 child) | Copy Link
Magically the second room will disappear once they arrive. There will have been some mysterious snafu with the reservation. I wouldn’t chance it.
[–]rftw2013Ruthless Strategist3 points4 points5 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Ugh. I wouldn't put this past him.
[–]idiosyncraticg1FDS Disciple2 points3 points4 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes. Ask for separate rooms.

I’m not exactly sure what I’m looking for in sharing this. Advice maybe. This is the first guy I’ve ever been on more than 1 date with and I’ve also never been intimate with any one to boot.
Growing up I saw a lot of toxic relationships and it made me generally wary of the intentions of the opposite sex.
I feel a bit prudish as well, but I just don’t want to go from 0 to 100 with someone I really don’t know that well either. I don’t think 4 dates is really enough time to get to know someone.

That is such a solid rule. I’m sure it helps weed out the men only in it for the sex.
[–]ScotsburdFDS Disciple18 points19 points20 points (7 children) | Copy Link
That's very smart. Don't let him rush you. If it doesn't feel right, it isn't. Doesn't mean if he takes it like a gentleman and proves his worth you may change your mind in the future? But right now, no. Maybe never with him and that's ok. When you are ready, you will know. You set the pace always.

Thank you. I know it seems like common sense but it really helps to have someone else voice what you’re already thinking.

And sometimes, for some reason, the guy can seem perfectly nice and we still don't feel it. Sometimes we can't pinpoint why, but something feels off. That's why it's super important to learn to trust our instinct because we're pretty good with it. It's important to shut out all the other voices (yours included) telling you you're being unreasonable or not logical.
Trust your gut. =)

This. I’ve been juggling with this for a minute now. On the surface this guy seems like everything I would want. A med student, hardworking, ambitious, and kind, but there’s something holding me back.
Not sure if it’s lack of sexual attraction or paranoia but it here’s definitely an element.
[–]GCchickFDS Disciple6 points7 points8 points (2 children) | Copy Link
I've been there too. That's why I'm telling you that if you feel something, it's because there is something. It could be something as simple as body language that your eye is picking up on a subconscious level.
When a guy looks perfect but you can't feel him, it's because there is something wrong. Maybe it's lack of attraction on your part or maybe it's something more sinister. In my personal case, through talking to him, I found out that the nice guy really was the opposite of a nice guy. He looked like a perfect gentle man but he was porn sickn, boring and didn't care much about me although he liked to prentend he did. What's incredible is that I felt that off feeling very quickly (like within minutes of talking to him) and ignored it for a while. I've learned my lesson and I'm going to listen to that little voice that tells me "Eh! something's off. it doesn't matter if you don't know what it is, something's off".
[–]shhdismuhthrowaway[S] 1 point2 points3 points (1 child) | Copy Link
Thank you for your insight. I’m going to start paying closer attention to these little things now, instead of trying to silence that little voice in the back of my mind.
[–]GCchickFDS Disciple1 point2 points3 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, as my mother says "always listen to the little voice". I wish you the best.
[–]ScotsburdFDS Disciple2 points3 points4 points (0 children) | Copy Link
You'll be fine. You've got this.
[–]GCchickFDS Disciple10 points11 points12 points (3 children) | Copy Link
Always trust your gut reaction. You're not feeling it, don't go against that.
You're not unreasonable, I wouldn't go on a holidays with a guy I met not so long ago. I'd go with a new boyfriend that I trust but not some guy I just met.
So what if you're prudish? It's only an insult salty guys throw at women for saying no to their dick. Women throw that insult too to other women that have more self respect than they have. Don't go faster than you feel like going just to fit into a mold that was imposed to you.
Our generation of women are being shamed for being prudish for anything these days. We need to take our power back and say "fuck it I have a right to be prudish". If you're not into certain sexual practices, you have a right to say no. You're not prudish, you know what you don't like. If you don't want to jump into a relationship with any Tom, Dick or Harry, you're not prudish. You just need to feel things are right. It's called having a backbone, never apologise for it.
You're not prudish, you have great intuition and you're trying to follow it. At your age, it can be hard. My advice to you : always, always trust yourself. Never do anything that doesn't feel right.
[–]shhdismuhthrowaway[S] 2 points3 points4 points (1 child) | Copy Link
Thank you for the kind words of advice. I really appreciate them. There’s sometimes this inclination to bend over to another’s will and if you don’t you feel guilty about it. It shouldn’t be like that!
[–]GCchickFDS Disciple3 points4 points5 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, I 've had that feeling for all my early 20's. The blessing of aging is that you start prioritizing yourself and you stop taking shit from people (no wonder old dinosaurs want young women).
Keep us updated if you can!

He sounds rapey. It would be different if he invited you and a bunch of people and you had your own car. If you go he is going to expect sex and will coerce you into it or rape you.
