My boyfriend’s mother used to have ALL of us get together for a “family” photo every holiday. One holiday I volunteered to be the one to take it and she got so upset at the thought of me not being in it. She LOVED me dearly. Her son cheated on me twice. lol

My grandma has a bit of a dilemma when my parent’s 20 year marriage ended because my dad was right in the middle of all the pictures. Her solution was to cut out black construction paper in his shape and paste it over him. So we’d have all the family members and some random black blob.

I used to just say “ok everyone, let’s get a picture” and then after a few takes “ok, family only now” and get a few takes. No one ever seemed to be hurt by this. The boyfriend even took the picture for us.

Edit: even at my wedding I had a “cousins” only picture so their spouses weren’t in it. One did get a divorce a few years later too. I did a siblings only picture, even for my parents’ siblings because you never know if they’ll (aunts and uncles) get divorced either. I just create family groupings so people think I’m just getting certain groupings. In the end, we will have multiple picture groupings and we can just throw out the ones involving people who will always be family.
