Read receipts = automatic LVM?

I personally keep mine on. If I’m at work I might open a message quickly and become sidetracked doing something else before I can reply. If my read receipts are on at least the person knows I read the message even if I haven’t sent one back yet. I also don’t mind when guys keep them on. I just like to know when my messages have been seen.

I think this is hella petty but we all have standards. I have them on because I don't see why I would turn them off

If I get left on read for over a day I’m pretty much blocking them. Unless it was a natural end of a conversation then ehh. Men who like you simply won’t go more than a day without getting back to you. They’re afraid you’ll lose interest and move on.

I'm 31, when I turned my read receipts off, my mum asked me to turn them back on because she likes to check I'm alive when she gets anxious. (she's working on it folks, and is generally healthy/wonderful).

Never really thought about it in terms of the guys in my life/dating.

I feel the exact opposite. Someone who turned the receipts off would flag up for me.

I leave them on to use them as a vetting strategy. If he can handle being left on "Read" temporarily while I'm busy without freaking out, he won't get left on "Read" permanently. Now if he freaks out, asks why I left him on "Read", or says I'm ignoring him...automatic red flag and block.

This is a good question. I stopped using read receipts and notifications before college because I would check my messages at scheduled times each day. However, last year a NVM I was involved with early on made a comment about it along the lines of “aw, I won’t be able to tell if you read my messages and call you out for ignoring me.” It’s a control move. I wouldn’t call the presence or absence of receipts themselves a red flag, but any hint of a manipulative attitude in conjunction should be a block and delete.

I think some people don't pay attention to their phone settings, but I only turn mine on when I want to be petty, so I get what you're saying. If a guy I was dating had them on and was consistently reading my texts and not responding, I'm dumping him.

I turned my read receipts off because my NV ex would read my messages and reply 0.5 - 2 hrs later and we had so many arguments about it. I've kept them off due to a lot of personal issues I haven't been so fast at replying to people these past months.

I think read receipts can be useful, more transparency so I don't personally think it's a bad thing to keep them on.
