Gifts/preferences?

We just focus on saving money for experiences. We agree to go to a place, usually the beach or the capital, to explore and buy beer that's too expensive. This year we wanted to visit DC when it's snowing so probably February we'll be "exchanging gifts". This is also a combined anniversary gift because our anniversary is the same week as Thanksgiving and we usually don't have time for ourselves with family everywhere.

In general, I note down gift ideas (either on my phone or planner) throughout the year by noticing what people say they wish they have, or what they obviously lack (easy to tell if you live with them or frequently hang out where they live). I start looking around for said gifts far in advance (such as during July haha), so I have plenty of time to find/order/commission the best version of the type of gift I'm looking for.

What sort of gifts does your man enjoy?

I give him gifts throughout the year at random, instead of hoarding them for special occasions/days.

For Christmas, it's usually something that's obviously only available during Christmas. I prefer buying useful items that have a Christmas theme/design, but if I don't find such items, I just buy edible/consumable stuff with Christmas-themed packaging.

I feel like I am always terrible at giving gifts for my husband, father, and stepfather. They are all successful men and when they want something they just go out and buy it.

With my husband I feel like I have resorted to a new watch too many times.

But this year I bought him one of those 23andme genetic tests, which I think will be fun! And I think I will get him sports tickets as well.

I’m making my bf a hat from his fave sci-fi show and I got him a tech toy he’s wanted. I also got him 2 small Xmas eve presents.

Instead of making my own post I'll post here b/c I need a little gift advice: I am in a new-ish relationship (~5 mos) but it is quite serious. His birthday was a few months ago and I got him something cute and goofy (a membership to a semi-serious online community called the "cloud appreciation society" where they send a membership certificate and send emails about clouds. He seriously loves clouds so he loved this gift, and it was perfect because it was small and intangible and inexpensive, but personal.)

Now, for Christmas I am not sure what to get, and even if I need to get anything? Neither of us are christian and holidays/gift giving aren't huge in either of our families. ALSO right now we are both abroad on a fellowship program (this is how we met) and we are going back to the US/Canada mid-January, so I can't get him anything big because it's too much to bring back. Usually I'd get something like fancy wine/cheese/foodstuffs - but that also isn't really an option because those types of things aren't available in this country.

What should I get him?? Again, I don't think I have to get him anything, but I love buying gifts and want to get him something small to show how much I love him. Do you have any ideas?

I got my boyfriend a Yeti cooler with a bunch of decals of his favorite sports teams, fitness brands, and interests (bands, etc.) so he can decorate it if/how he likes. Plus a stocking stuffed with snacks and little random odds and ends (his favorite pens, travel size shower gel because he ALWAYS forgets that) and a stocking for his dog with treats, a new collar, and a new toy. I also got him an ornament of an interest of his because it’s a tradition in my family to give each member one every year based on their interests/accomplishments that year.

I'm getting DH a gadget I know he wants, some jokey gifts (which he always loves) and a bunch of mail order jerky. DH love jerky and he's never had the good stuff, so I thought that would be a great gift. I also like to get him lots of candy :) because he has quite the sweet tooth.

My basic equation is 1 really nice item i know he wants, 2 less expensive things i know he'll like, a wild card gift that i'm pretty sure he'll like, and junky candies and fun stuff.
